Box Score FT. LAURDERDALE, FL – Curry took advantage of a 50.0% shooting percentage as the Colonels defeated the Yellow Jackets 70-56 at the Cruzin Classic in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
R-MC (1-10) got a game-high 16 points from Hannah Livermon and 15 points from Sarah Parsons. Katie Anderson had six points and pulled in a team-high 10 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets. Randolph-Macon shot 29.2% (21-72) for the game and was just 4-of-26 from beyond the arc.
Curry (6-2) got a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds from Samantha Corcoran. Kylie Beltz (13), Shannon Griffith (14) and Christina Deiorio (10) joined Corcoran in double-figures combining for 37 of the Colonels points. Curry made 50.0% of its shots from the field, connecting on 25-of-50 attempts in the win.
The first 10 minutes of play proved to be close, featuring eight lead changes and four ties. Two free-throws from Kellie Cortina with 9:58 on the clock brought the Yellow Jackets within one at 19-18, but Curry would go on a 19-6 run to take a 14 point lead with just over one minute left in the half.
R-MC would then go on to score six straight points topped off by a Parsons layup with two seconds left in the half to cut the Colonel lead to eight at 38-30 going into intermission.
The Hawks would then open up the second stanza scoring 17 of the first 24 points, capping what proved to be a 19-5 run with a Griffith jumper that made it 57-35 with 10:15 to play.
With just over two minutes left in the game, Livermon drained a three-pointer that was followed by a Parsons layup 15 seconds later to pull the Yellow Jackets within 10 at 64-54.
That would be as close as R-MC would get as the Colonels would get four consecutive points from Beltz en route to a 6-0 run to seal the game.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on January 5th at 2:00 p.m. when it travels to Greensboro, NC to take on the 2012 ODAC Champion, Guilford College.
