Box Score FT. LAURDERDALE, FL -- Hartwick held Randolph-Macon to just five made field goals in the second-half as the Hawks overcame a halftime deficit to top the Yellow Jackets 61-49 at the Cruzin Classic in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
R-MC (1-9) got 11 points from both Hannah Livermon and Katie Anderson. Khajae Hester and Paige Mills each had eight points for the Jackets. Randolph-Macon shot 29.1% (16-55) for the game and was just 5-of-28 from the floor in the decisive second-half.
Hartwick (7-2) got a game-high 25 points from Maria Foglia. Foglia made 7-of-11 shots on the night, including 6-of-9 in the second-half where she tallied 20 of her points. Brittney Dumas scored 17 points in the victory as well for the Hawks. Hartwick made 51.3% of its shots from the field, connecting on 20-of-39 attempts in the win.
An Anderson jumper with just over two minutes to go in the first-half gave R-MC an 28-22 advantage. Hartwick would score the final six points of the half to cut the R-MC lead to two at the break.
The Hawks would then open up the second stanza scoring 17 of the first 22 points, capping what proved to be a 21-5 run with a Dumas jumper that made it 43-33 with 14:22 to play.
R-MC battled back scoring the next seven points and pulled within three when Livermon drained a three-pointer to make the score 43-40 with just over 11 minutes to go.
The game remained tight with a Sarah Parsons bucket making the score 51-47 in favor of Hartwick with 6:03 to play.
That would be as close as R-MC would get as the Hawks would get seven consecutive points from Foglia en route to a 10-0 run to seal the game.
Randolph-Macon will be right back in action tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. when it takes on Curry College from Massachusetts at the Cruzin Classic.
