Box Score ST. MARY'S, MD -- St. Mary's had four players score in double-figures to propel the Seahawks to an 84-66 non-conference win over Randolph-Macon on Thursday evening.
R-MC (0-5) was led in scoring by a trio of freshmen. Katie Anderson scored 14 and had six boards for R-MC, while Nicole Freeman finished with 10 points and three assists and Hannah Livermon notched six rebounds and chipped in 11 points.
SMC (4-0) was paced by Joanna Murray who finished with 23 points and six boards. Marche Pearson finished with 14 points and six rebounds, while teammates Aura Payne and Sophie Pruden each had 12 points.
St. Mary's held a 50-42 advantage in rebounds and shot 47.9% (34-of-71) for the game. The Seahawks held the Jackets to 33.3% from the floor on 22-of-66 shooting.
The game was tight throughout the first-half with SMC holding a slim 21-16 edge with 9:28 to play. The Yellow Jackets would score 10 of the next 13 points, taking a 26-24 lead after a Freeman layup with just over four minutes to go in the half.
A Murray bucket on St. Mary's next trip down the court tied the game and started a 12-4 run for the Seahawks to close the half and give them a 36-30 lead at the break.
The Yellow Jackets remained within striking distance during the second-half, pulling within three points when a Sarah Parsons three-pointer made it 59-56 with 7:57 left in the game.
That would prove to be as close as R-MC would get as St. Mary's responded with a 17-3 run to pull away from the Yellow Jackets. The run was capped by a Pruden basket that made the score 76-59 with just over three minutes to go.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts ODAC foe Hollins at 4:00 p.m.
