Box Score The Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball team used a solid defensive effort to top Randolph, 83-39 Tuesday evening. The Yellow Jackets improved to 8-7 overall, 6-4 in conference play, while the WildCats fell to 3-10 on the season, 0-8 in the ODAC.
Taylor Wieczorek led R-MC with 15 points and seven boards on the evening. Sarah Parsons scored 14 points for her 12th straight game in double figures. Maggie Roy filled the stat sheet with 13 points, six assists, five rebounds, and four steals and Madison Dulaney added a season-high eight points.
Jensen Hoover paced the WildCats with eight points. Brianna Lowry added seven points and five rebounds.
Both teams traded baskets early in the first-half. Wieczorek scored eight of the Jackets first 12 points, giving R-MC an early 12-8 lead three minutes in. Randolph stayed in it for much of the first-half after Olivia Johnson made two free-throws to make the score 28-21 with six minutes remaining. The Yellow Jackets closed the half on a 15-3 run, capped by a Parson's three-pointer to enter the intermission leading, 43-24.
Randolph-Macon held Randolph without a field goal until Bonnie Bishop hit a three with 3:30 left on the clock. The Yellow Jackets opened the half on a 20-6 run after Dulaney knocked down a free-throw and controlled the game throughout the second stanza. Christina Phelps scored four points and pulled down five boards in the second-half.
R-MC held Randolph to 18.9% (10-53) shooting from the field. The Jackets forced its opponent to at least 20 turnovers for the fifth straight game and tied a season-low with 11 turnovers. Randolph-Macon also held a 48-34 edge in rebounding.
The Yellow Jackets look to continue their ODAC winning streak Saturday, January 21st when they travel to Bridgewater. Tip-off is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
