BIRMINGHAM, AL-- Randolph-Macon junior Jordan Walton was named a First Team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association Friday afternoon. Walton becomes the first R-MC Baseball player to garner First-Team All-American honors in program history.
The junior from Mechanicsville, VA shattered the NCAA single season doubles record with 31, the previous record was 27. Walton led the nation with 84 hits that also broke the ODAC single season record, which was previously set at 77.
"I could not be happier for Jordan and what he has accomplished this season" said R-MC's Head Baseball Coach Ray Hedrick. "He is a true example that a positive attitude, effort and approach can lead to immeasurable success. We couldn't ask for a better representative of Randolph-Macon Baseball than Jordan."
Walton drove in a conference best 57 runs and ranked second in the ODAC and 13th in the country with a .452 batting average. The Lee-Davis High School product finished the season with 131 total bases which led the ODAC and placed him fourth in the nation.
R-MC's first baseman has also been named Second Team All-ODAC, the ODAC Tournament's Most Outstanding Player, First Team All-South Region and a D3baseball.com All-American.
Randolph-Macon concluded their 2011 season with a 24-20 overall record and an 11-7 ODAC mark on the way to their second conference title in the past four seasons.
