R-MC Softball Sweeps ODAC Leading EMU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Randolph-Macon Softball picked up a pair of key conference wins over defending ODAC champion Eastern Mennonite 2-1 and 4-0 Sunday afternoon in Ashland. The Yellow Jackets improve to 19-7 overall and 9-5 in the ODAC while the Royals fall to 18-10 and 9-3 in conference play.

Brandi Wilson allowed just one run over four and a third innings in game one while striking out seven to pick up her first career win for R-MC. Heather Lewis tossed the final two and two thirds, striking out two for her fourth save of the season. Kristen Dize went all seven innings in the circle to pick up the game two win. Dize scattered five hits and allowed no runs for her second shutout of the season.

Laura Bauer had the only multi-hit game for the Jackets with two singles and an RBI. Lewis had a double and two RBI for Randolph-Macon's only extra base hit.

EMU also had just one hitter with a multi-hit game as Lisa Lee had two singles. Sara Jenkins' double in game one was the only extra base hit for the Royals.

After two scoreless innings, Randolph-Macon broke through in the bottom of the third when Jordan Hunt led off with a single and Lauryn Nanny was hit by a pitch. Morgan Greene then reached on an error before Bauer drew a bases loaded walk to score Hunt. The Jackets pushed across their second run of the inning when Nanny scored on a wild pitch.

Eastern Mennonite cut the lead to 2-1 after Jenkins led off the fifth with a double and then scored on a Jessica Sullivan RBI single. Lewis came on to pitch for R-MC with two on and one out and retired the side to end the threat. Lewis allowed just one runner to reach base over the final two innings to preserve the 2-1 victory.

Game two remained a scoreless tie until the bottom of the fourth when Bauer brought home Greene with a single. Paige Smith then scored on an error before Lewis delivered a two run double to left that put Randolph-Macon on top 4-0.

Dize continued her dominance on the mound as she did not allow a runner beyond second base for the final three innings to complete the doubleheader sweep 4-0.

Randolph-Macon Softball returns to action Saturday, April 9th when they host Emory and Henry for a 1:30 ODAC doubleheader. Before Saturday's game the Yellow Jackets will honor their three seniors.
