Walton Breaks NCAA Doubles Record as No. 3 Shenandoah Tops Randolph-Macon 10-4

Winchester, VA-- Randolph-Macon junior Jordan Walton broke the NCAA single season doubles record against Shenandoah Wednesday with a double in the third inning to bring his season total to 28. The third ranked Hornets took the weekday match up 10-4.

Walton added a homerun and an RBI to his record breaking double in a 2-for-3 effort at the dish. James Bierlein finished 2-for-4 at the dish with a three run homerun. Cory Jackson also chipped in with two hits.

Ryan Wood is stuck with the loss for the Yellow Jackets after allowing six earned runs and striking out three in three innings. Carlos Perez tossed three scoreless innings with two strikeouts in three innings on the bump. Senior Josh Ellwood gave up just one hit over an inning and a third of relief.

Kurt Krout led the Hornets at the plate going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Clint DeHaven drove in two runs with a homerun and was hit by a pitch.

Greg Van Sickler allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out 11 in a five inning start. Four Hornets combined to give up just three hits and no runs over the final four innings.

Shenandoah scored three runs in the bottom of the first, two coming from DeHaven's homerun to left center.

Randolph-Macon used a solo homerun from Walton and a three run blast from Bierlein in the top of the second to take a 4-3 advantage.

The Hornets responded quickly in the bottom half to tie the score at 4-4 on a Krout RBI single before going ahead 6-4 on a wild pitch and another RBI single.

Shenandoah added two in the third and two more in the eighth to win by a 10-4 final.

R-MC Baseball returns to action Saturday, April 30 when they host York College for a 1:00 doubleheader.
