Box Score LEXINGTON, VA – Washington outlasted Randolph-Macon, 12-8, in men's lacrosse in a game that featured offensive runs by both teams.
R-MC is now 8-5 overall and 2-4 in the ODAC. W&L is 9-7 and is 5-2 in the league.
With the score tied 1-1, the Generals reeled off four straight strikes to take a 5-1 lead at the conclusion of the first quarter.
Justin Butler got the R-MC run going with a goal just over two minutes into the second stanza. It sparked what proved to a 5-0 run for the Jackets who took a 6-5 advantage on a Tim Rowe goal with 5:30 to go in the half.
After Spence Daw tied the game at 6-6 for W&L, Randolph-Macon took a 7-6 lead into the locker room on the strength of a Jason Andrews goal to close the first half scoring.
The lone goal of the third quarter came off the stick of the Generals' Joe Wood at the 7:21 mark, tying the score at 7-7.
W&L took a commanding lead at the start of the fourth quarter, scoring four times in the first 4:50 of the final period.
Jake Leddy was able to cut it to 11-8 for R-MC with three minutes to go, but the Generals got a goal with 50 seconds to go to seal the win.
Butler led Randolph-Macon with three goals while Rowe had a goal and two assists. Jason Crawford and Ryan Reechia both played in goal for the Yellow Jackets. Crawford started and made five saves (6 GA), while Reechia played the final 30 minutes and had four saves (6 GA).
Randolph-Macon will play in the ODAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Wednesday at an opponent to be determined.
