Lynchburg Pulls Away from R-MC Men's Lax 12-7

Box Score

ASHLAND, VA -  Lynchburg used a 9-1 run over the course of the final five minutes of the third quarter and first five minutes of the fourth quarter to break open a tight game and go onto a 12-7 victory over host Randolph-Macon Wednesday afternoon.

R-MC is now 8-5 overall and 2-4 in the ODAC.  LC, which is receiving votes in this week's top-20 poll, now stands at 10-5 and 4-2 in the league.

The Yellow Jackets were led by a strong performance in the cage by Jason Crawford who turned away 16 of the 47 Hornet shots on the day.  On the offensive end, Patrick Egan scored three goals while Justin Butler, Josh Merwin, Jake Leddy and Brian Rowe all had one tally on the day.

LC came out and built a 3-1 lead after one quarter before Egan scored two goals in the second quarter to draw the Jackets even at 3-3.

LC's Derek Sweet scored with just 2:06 to play in the half, sending the Hornets to the break with a 4-3 edge.

The game stayed that way until Leddy pulled R-MC even at the 7:12 mark, scoring on a feed from John Gallagher.

A Max Vournard goal with 5:16 proved be the first of three straight scores by LC in just under two minutes of action, making the score 7-4.

After a Rowe goal brought R-MC back within two at 7-5 with 2:21 to play in the third quarter, Lynchburg sealed the game with a 5-0 run, capped by a Dylan Hoff goal 8:53 to go in the game.

Vournard led the way for LC with a hat trick, while Jeff Schwartz won 19-of-21 faceoffs, grabbed 12 groundballs and had one goal in the win. Franc Cook made eight stops between the pipes for Lynchburg.

Randolph-Macon will close out its regular season on Saturday with a trip to Lexington for a 1:00 p.m. ODAC game with Washington and Lee.
