Box Score 2 Megan Shepherd's three run homerun in the fifth inning of game two propelled Randolph-Macon Softball to a 5-4 win over Bridgewater College Saturday in Ashland. The Eagles took game one 12-7 to split the ODAC doubleheader.
Randolph-Macon (17-7 / 7-5 ODAC) was led at the plate by Shepherd who finished the doubleheader 6-for-7 with a homerun, two doubles and six RBI. Paige Smith went 3-for-5 over the two games with an RBI and five runs scored.
Kristen Dize improved to 8-1 on the season after picking up the win in game two. Dize tossed two and a third innings, allowing one earned run and striking out two. Heather Lewis was stuck with the game one loss but threw a perfect seventh inning in game two to earn her fourth save of the season.
Aven Thomas paced the Bridgewater (19-6 / 9-3 ODAC) attack with a 4-for-9 day at the plate. Thomas added a homerun, a double and three RBI.
Heather Jenkins gave up seven earned runs and struck out six over six and a third innings to pick up the game one win. Summer Ramsey is saddled with the game two loss after allowing four earned runs in six innings.
Shepherd doubled home Smith in the first inning of game one to give the Yellow Jackets an early 1-0 lead but the Eagles responded in the top of the third with a two run double from Emily Morris to take a 2-1 edge.
Randolph-Macon tied it in the bottom half after Smith reached on a single and later scored on a Laura Bauer hit.
Bridgewater pushed across four runs in the top of the fourth on a Morris double and an R-MC error to take a 6-2 advantage.
Carolyn Gilbertson singled home two runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull the Yellow Jackets within two but the Eagles added four in the fifth and two in the sixth to pick up the 12-7 game one win.
Randolph-Macon took a 1-0 lead in game two when Shepherd singled home Morgan Greene.
Bridgewater knotted the score at 1-1 in the second on a Drew Rutledge solo homerun but the Yellow Jackets answered with a run on Greene's run scoring single to go back on top 2-1.
Lauren Childress led off the fourth with a solo homerun before the Eagles stretched the lead to 4-1 with another run in the fourth and Thomas homerun in the fifth.
Greene sparked a fifth inning rally for R-MC with a single and scored later in the inning when Shepherd delivered a three run homerun to push the Yellow Jackets ahead 5-4.
Dize held BC scoreless in the sixth and Lewis retired all three batters she faced in the seventh to secure R-MC's 5-4 win and a split of the ODAC doubleheader.
Randolph-Macon Softball returns to action Sunday, April 3rd when they host Eastern Mennonite University for a 1:30 doubleheader.
