Box Score 2 The Yellow Jackets totaled 44 runs and 40 hits on the way to a doubleheader sweep of Sweet Briar 27-0 and 17-0 to open ODAC play. Randolph-Macon Softball improves to 11-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
Laura Bauer led the offense going 3-for-4 with two doubles and six RBI over the two games. Paige Smith finished a perfect 4-for-4 on the day with four RBI and two triples. Megan Shepherd had a 2-for-3 day with two triples and two RBI. Jessie Jaeger went 4-for-5 at the plate and also drove in a run. In total, 12 Yellow Jackets had multi-hit games.
Heather Lewis picked up the game one win, allowing just one hit over two innings while striking out five. Lewis also went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Brandi Wilson scattered two hits and struck out five in three innings in the circle.
Kristen Dize earned the game two victory after tossing two scoreless innings, giving up just one hit and striking out four. Ashley Major and Carrie Beth White combined for three hitless innings to close out game two.
After Lewis struck out the side in the top of the first, the Yellow Jackets scored four runs in the bottom half on four hits. Bauer singled home Morgan Greene before Smith scored Bauer and Lewis with a triple to right. Shepherd capped the inning with a run scoring triple to left.
Randolph-Macon sent 24 batters to the plate in the bottom of second, scoring 19 runs on 13 hits and three Sweet Briar errors. Bauer doubled home three runs before Smith scored her with a triple. Michalann Camp, Lauryn Nanny, White, Jaeger, Brittany Ragland all had run scoring singles in the inning while Greene and Lewis brought home two each with doubles.
Brittni Kidd plated one run in the third with an RBI double and R-MC added three more in fourth on RBI singles from Jordan Hunt and Kidd to win by a final of 27-0.
Nanny led off game two with an inside the park homerun to open up an eight run outburst in the first inning for Randolph-Macon. Bauer doubled home two before Shepherd plated her with a triple. Alex Gregoire, Smith and Nanny all drove in a run with a single and Lacey Berry added to the scoring column with a double.
The Jackets added two in the second, three in the third and four in the fourth to finish off the Vixens 17-0.
Randolph-Macon Softball returns to action Saturday, March 12th when they host Randolph College for a 1:30 doubleheader.
