Box Score 2 Lauryn Nanny ripped a single in the bottom of the seventh that scored Heather Lewis and gave Randolph-Macon Softball (7-1) a 1-0 win over Meredith College in the second game of the Virginia Wesleyan Beach Blast Tournament Friday. No. 9 Salisbury defeated the Yellow Jackets in the early game 7-0 with a no hitter.
Salisbury pitcher Erika Brittingham tossed her second no-hitter of the season, allowing just one walk and hitting a batter while striking out 14 in the first game of the tournament Friday. The Seagulls are currently ranked ninth nationally.
R-MC pitcher Brandi Wilson scattered two hits, struck out four and allowed no earned runs over the final four innings.
The Yellow Jackets were locked in a 0-0 pitchers duel with Meredith College in game two until the bottom of the seventh when Heather Lewis led off the inning with a double. Katie McCauley followed with a sacrifice bunt that advanced Lewis to third. Nanny then stepped to the plate and singled, scoring Lewis and giving Randolph-Macon the 1-0 walk-off victory, their third walk-off win of the season.
Lewis also picks up the win in the circle, allowing no runs over the final two innings. Kristen Dize tossed the first five innings, scattering four hits and striking out four.
Nanny paced R-MC with a 3-for-4 game at the plate and had the Yellow Jackets' lone RBI. Megan Shepherd also had a multi-hit game going 2-for-3.
Randolph-Macon will face Virginia Intermont at 10:00am and Rowan at 2:00 on Saturday, March 5th during day two of the Virginia Wesleyan Beach Blast Tournament.
