Box Score R-MC goalie Jason Crawford made 21 saves and Tyler Midwinter and Justin Butler scored three goals each but Roanoke punched in a goal with 1:27 left in overtime to get past Randolph-Macon Men's Lacrosse 12-11 Saturday in Ashland.
The Yellow Jackets (6-3 / 0-2 ODAC) were led offensively by Midwinter who finished with three goals and two assists. Bulter scored three times while Jason Andrews notched two goals and two assists. Crawford faced 52 shots in goal, making 21 saves in over 63 minutes.
Mike Hayden paced the Maroons' (6-3 / 2-0 ODAC) attack with four goals while Richard Lachlan and Trey Keeley chipped in with three goals apiece.
Roanoke went up 3-1 with 8:19 to play in first quarter when Keeley scored unassisted.
Randolph-Macon cut the lead to 3-2 just under four minutes later on an unassisted goal from Andrews.
Keeley and Hayden scored the first two goals of the second quarter for the Maroons to extend the advantage to 5-2.
Butler found the back of the net with 11:23 to play in the second that sparked a 3-0 run Yellow Jacket run. Midwinter scored a man up goal on an Andrew's pass before Tim Rowe tied the game at 5-5 with a score at the 3:45 mark.
Roanoke scored three goals in the first two minutes of the third quarter to retake the lead at 8-5. Mike Hayden tallied the first two scores of the run before Lachlan capped it on a pass from Jeff Keating with 13:17 to go.
R-MC responded just 19 seconds later with a goal from Jake Leddy that ignited a 4-0 Yellow Jacket run. Midwinter ripped a goal before Leddy tied the game with another goal at the 10:21 mark. Butler finished off the outburst with an unassisted score to give Randolph-Macon a 9-8 edge with 4:28 to go in the quarter.
After an own goal tied the game at 9-9, Keeley took a pass from Brendan Nizolek and scored to put the Maroons up 10-9 heading into the fourth quarter.
Butler retied the game six minutes into the quarter with an unassisted goal but Roanoke responded with 2:32 on the clock when Lachlan scored.
Randolph-Macon trailed 11-10 with less than two minutes to play when Andrews found an open Midwinter who fired a shot into the back of the net to tie the game at 11-11.
Both teams took shots in the final 1:47 but could not break through and the game headed to overtime.
After winning the faceoff, Roanoke fired a shot but R-MC's Crawford made the save to keep the game alive.
A near miss from the Yellow Jackets on the offensive end led to a Maroons' push up the field where Drew Manley found Lachlan for the game winning goal.
Roanoke held a 52-39 advantage in shots and edged Randolph-Macon 56-42 in groundballs.
R-MC Men's Lacrosse returns to action Saturday, April 2nd when they host Guilford College for a 1:00 ODAC contest.
