Box Score 2 Randolph-Macon Baseball scored four runs in the first inning of game two on the way to a 10-2 win over Emory and Henry Friday in Emory, VA. The Wasps pushed across two runs in the bottom of the ninth to take game one 5-4.
Cory Jackson finished Friday's doubleheader 6-for-8 at the plate with two doubles and an RBI to lead the Yellow Jackets offensively. Peter Culver totaled four hits on the day including a double and an RBI. Greg Mitro drove in three runs in game two while Jeb Weymouth plated two with two hits.
Michael Helbig threw all nine innings of game two, allowing one earned run on 10 hits while striking out seven. James Bierlein is saddled with the game one loss after giving up no earned runs (two unearned) and striking out one in two thirds of an innings. Jamie Hendrick tossed seven and two thirds innings for the no decision, allowing two earned runs and striking out five.
Nathan Wimmer paced the Emory and Henry attack in game one going 3-for-4 with a homerun and an RBI. Eric Houff went 3-for-4 in the late game with an RBI.
Will Dingus earns the win for the Wasps after allowing just one run over two innings of relief. Todd Cross gave up five earned in the first four innings of game two in the loss.
Wimmer gave E&H a 1-0 edge in the second inning of game one when he belted a solo homerun.
The Jackets rallied for two runs in the sixth to take the lead on a Jackson RBI double and a bases loaded walk to Bierlein.
Bierlein's run scoring double in the eighth highlighted a two run outburst that put R-MC up 4-1.
The Wasps cut the advantage to 4-3 in the eight after a Houff RBI single and a sacrifice fly from Nick Windom. E&H took advantage of two R-MC errors to start the bottom of the ninth before Josh McMillan tied the game with a run scoring single up the middle. Will Schulhof stepped to the plate next and delivered a bases loaded single through the right side to give Emory and Henry a 5-4 win.
Weymouth opened up the Randolph-Macon offense in game two with a single down the left field line to score Brian Jordan. Mitro stepped to the plate two batters later and ripped a single to right, scoring Culver. An RBI single from Jay Lichter and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Andrew Cheatham gave the Yellow Jackets a 4-0 first inning lead.
R-MC tacked on one in the second on a Weymouth fielder's choice before Culver highlighted a two run fourth with a run scoring double to push the advantage to 7-1.
Jordan Walton scored on an error in the seventh and Bierlein plated Jackson later in the inning with a single to secure the 10-2 victory.
Randolph-Macon Baseball returns to action Tuesday, March 29th when they travel to York (Pa.) for a 3:30 contest.
