Box Score Jordan Walton's grand slam in fifth inning propelled Randolph-Macon Baseball to a 10-6 win over Maryville College in Maryville, TN Thursday night. The Yellow Jackets improve to 11-11 overall while the Scots falls to 16-7.
Walton led an R-MC attack that totaled 17 hits with two doubles, a homerun and four RBI. Brian Jordan, Peter Culver, Cory Jackson and Andrew Cheatham all had two hits and an RBI. Jay Lichter went 2-for-2 with a walk and two sacrifices.
Kyle Hicks picks up the win on the mound after allowing three earned runs on four hits over seven innings. Hicks issued no walks and struck out seven. Dale Langford gave up just one earned run over the final two innings to earn the save.
Mikee Moore paced the Scots at the dish going 3-for-5 with two RBI and a homerun. Robert Brown is saddled with the loss on the mound after allowing five earned runs over five innings while walking three and striking out two.
With the Jackets trailing 2-1 in the top of the fifth, Walton stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and blasted a grand slam to right center that put R-MC up 5-2.
Maryville cut the Randolph-Macon lead to 5-3 in the sixth when Kyle Cyprysiak belted a solo shot to right with two outs.
Lichter advanced Greg Mitro and Walton to second and third with a sacrifice bunt in the top of the seventh to set up Cheatham who brought home a run with a single. James Bierlein stepped to the plate next and delivered a double to left that scored Mitro to push the R-MC edge to 7-3.
The Scots pushed across a run on a wild pitch in the eighth and then cut the deficit to 7-5 later in the inning on a Cyprysiak sacrifice fly.
R-MC put the game out of reach in the top of the ninth, scoring three runs on RBI singles from Jordan, Culver and Jeb Weymouth.
Maryville scored one run in the ninth on a fielder's choice before Randolph-Macon's reliever Langford struck out the final batter to secure the 10-6 win.
The Yellow Jackets return to action Friday, March 25th when they travel to Emory & Henry for a 1:00 ODAC doubleheader. Please note that this game has been moved up to Friday due to the threat of rain in the Emory, VA area on Saturday.
