R-MC Softball scored the first seven runs of game two and held off a late rally to get past Catholic 7-4 in Ashland Saturday. The Cardinals used three homeruns to take game one 7-1.

Paige Smith led the Yellow Jackets in game two going 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI along with scoring three runs. Alex Gregoire had a pair of singles and an RBI while Megan Shepherd and Laura Bauer drove in two runs each.

Kristen Dize allowed three earned runs over five and a third innings to pick up the game two win and improve to 7-0 on the season. Heather Lewis was saddled with the game one loss but rebounded to earn the save in game two. Brandi Wilson gave up just one earned run and struck out five over three innings in game one.

Kerri Apicella went the distance in game one, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out five. Erin McMakin gave up seven earned runs in all six innings of game two.

Bauer opened up the R-MC offense in game two when she ripped a bases loaded single up the middle, scoring Shepherd and Smith. Gregoire capped the three run first inning with an RBI single down the leftfield line.

Lewis led off the second with a walk and then scored on a Smith triple to extend the Jackets' lead to 4-0. Shepherd followed with a single up the middle to score Smith.

RBI groundouts from Michalann Camp and Shepherd in the fourth pushed the Randolph-Macon advantage to 7-0.

Taylor Stockinger put Catholic on the board in the top of the fifth with a sacrifice fly that scored Meagan Daubman.

The Cardinals loaded the bases with one out in the sixth when Tracey Scanlon singled down the line in right to push across a run. Daubman came up to bat two batters later and singled to left that cut the lead to 7-3. Catholic pulled within three after scoring on an R-MC error before Lewis came on to pitch for the Yellow Jackets and induced a fly ball for out three.

CUA advanced a runner to third in the top of the seventh but Lewis along with the Jackets' defense ended the threat and took game two 7-4.

In game one, Catholic scored four in the third including three on a Megan Rizzi homerun to take a 4-0 lead. The Cardinals used solo homeruns from Kristen Trancynger and Nina Victoria Curto along with a sacrifice fly from Trancynger to extend the lead to 7-0.
