St. Mary's Holds off Late Rally to Get Past Randolph-Macon 3-2

Box Score

Trailing by one run in the ninth, Randolph-Macon Baseball loaded the bases with one out but could not push across a run as St. Mary's held on a for 3-2 win in St. Mary's City Wednesday.

Leftfielder Brian Jordan paced the Yellow Jackets at the plate going 2-for-2 with three walks. Michael Helbig and Peter Culver both went .500 at the dish, driving in a run each.

Matt Baden led off the bottom of the first with a double and then scored later in the inning on a Corey Napier single. Joey Kavanagh doubled home Napier to end the two run inning for the Seahawks.

St. Mary's stretched their lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning after Napier sacrificed home Bobby Corton.

Cory Jackson and Helbig led off the seventh with singles for the Jackets and advanced to second and third on a Nick Digby sacrifice bunt. Culver then stepped to the plate and delivered a deep fly ball to center, scoring Jackson.

Randolph-Macon added another run in the seventh when Helbig singled home Jay Lichter who was hit by a pitch then stole second.

Culver and Jordan led off the ninth with back to back singles before Greg Mitro put both runners in scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Jeb Weymouth was then intentionally walked, loading the bases for Jordan Walton with R-MC trailing 3-2.

Walton ripped a line drive at the leftfielder who made the catch and doubled up Jordan at second, ending the Randolph-Macon threat and the game.
