Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH – Virginia Wesleyan scored four unanswered goals to start the second half to break a halftime tie and go onto an 8-4 ODAC win over visiting Randolph-Macon Saturday evening in Virginia Beach.
A low scoring first half featured a goal by Patrick Egan to put the Jackets up 1-0 six seconds into the game.
First quarter goals by Ryan McArthur and Andrew Adamson pushed the Marlins out in front 2-1 at the end of the first stanza.
The score stayed that way until 14 seconds to go in the first half when R-MC's Tim Rowe knotted the game at 2-2.
VWC scored the lone two goals of the third quarter to go up 4-2 then back-to-back strike by Travis Puls extended the Marlin lead to 6-2 with 7:33 to play in the game.
R-MC (6-2 / 0-1 ODAC) out shot VWC 32-24, but the Jackets offense was only able to put 14 of those shots on net. VWC (4-3 / 1-0 ODAC) won the groundball battle 28-23 and each team won 8-of-16 face offs on the night.
Jason Crawford made 11 stops in net for R-MC, while Tyler Keech made 11 saves in the cage for VWC in the win.
Egan led R-MC with two goals, while Tyler Midwinter and Rowe each had one tally.
Randolph-Macon will be off until Saturday when it plays host to No. 9 Roanoke at 2:00 p.m. in Ashland.
