Box Score 2 Bridgewater College used a four run tenth inning rally in game
one and a three run seventh in game two to sweep Randolph-Macon
Baseball 8-5 and 4-3 Saturday in Ashland.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 10-9 overall and 6-3 in the ODAC, the
Eagles improve to 12-10 overall, 7-0 in the conference.
Jordan
Walton paced R-MC in game one going 2-for-5 with two RBI. Cory Jackson and
Michael
Helbig chipped in with two game one hits each while Greg Mitro finished
1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Jeb Weymouth went
2-for-4 in game two with a homerun, a double and two RBI.
Jonathan Mason led the Eagles attack with a 6-for-10 day that
included two doubles and five RBI. Andrew Hacker and Alex
Nuttycombe had three hits apiece in game one.
In game one, the Jackets trailed 4-2 in the bottom of the ninth
when Peter
Culver and Brian Jordan led off
the inning with singles before a Mitro sacrifice bunt plated Culver
and advanced Jordan to second. Walton then delivered a two out RBI
single to tie the game at 4-4.
Bridgewater responded in the tenth with four runs, three coming
on a Mason double to right center.
Randolph-Macon pushed across one run in the bottom half but
could not complete the comeback, falling 8-5.

Bierlein is stuck with the loss after allowing no earned runs
(4 unearned) in one inning on the bump. R-MC starter Jamie Hendrick
tossed the first six innings, giving up two earned runs and
striking out five. Dale Langford
pitched three innings, allowing two earned and striking out
two.
Tyler Milstead picks up the win after going two and two thirds,
giving up two earned runs.
Bridgewater struck first in the third inning of game two when
Kevin Kirk drove in Devon Snow with a single but Randolph-Macon
answered back in the bottom half on a Mitro RBI fielder's
choice.
The Yellow Jackets took a 2-1 lead in the fifth when Weymouth
doubled down the left field line to score Bierlein.
BC rallied for three runs on three hits and an R-MC error in the
top of the seventh. Mason singled home the Eagles only earned run
after Dustin Arrowood scored on an error and Nuttycombe crossed the
plate on a wild pitch.
Weymouth belted a solo homerun to right in the eighth inning to
pull Randolph-Macon within one at 4-3.
Culver led off the bottom of the ninth with a single and then
advanced to second on a Digby sacrifice bunt to put the Yellow
Jackets in striking distance. Bierlein then reached on an error
before a Jordan deep fly out to right put runners at second and
third for Mitro. Mitro stepped to the plate and ripped a line drive
down the right field line but the Eagles' outfielder Mason made a
diving catch to save the game.
Helbig picks up the loss after allowing two earned runs over
seven innings while striking out two. Kevin Chandler earns the
complete game win, giving up three earned and striking out
five.
Randolph-Macon now heads to Tennessee for spring break where
they will face Rhodes on Tuesday, March 22nd at 7:00.
The Yellow Jackets will also take on Hendrix and Maryville before
finishing the trip with an ODAC doubleheader at Emory and Henry on
Saturday, March 26th at noon.
