Box Score 2 Heather Lewis picked up her ninth win of the season as Randolph-Macon Softball (14-2 / 5-1 ODAC) picked up a 4-1 win over Guilford in game one on Saturday in Greensboro. The Quakers used a three run seventh inning rally to get past the Jackets in game two 7-6.
Lewis scattered six hits over seven innings in game one, allowing just one run that came in the bottom of the seventh. The sophomore lefty also contributed at the plate going 5-for-7 with two doubles and two RBI for the doubleheader.
Morgan Greene went 3-for-7 over the two ODAC games with a double and two RBI while Paige Smith went 3-for-4 in game one with a double and two RBI.
After four scoreless innings, R-MC's Lauryn Nanny led off the fifth with a double and was followed by Greene who walked. A Smith single loaded the bases for Lewis who ripped a two run double to left field.
The Yellow Jackets pushed their lead to 4-0 in the sixth when Smith singled home Greene and Nanny.
Guilford used an RBI single from Ashley Boteler in the ninth to notch the scoring column but Lewis induced a pop fly out to retire the side.
Jessica Burcham is stuck with the loss for the Quakers after allowing four earned runs over five and two thirds innings while striking out four. Cynthia Hayes paced Guilford at the plate with a 2-for-3 game, Julie Langseth's double was GC's only extra base hit.
The Quakers got off to a hot start in game two, scoring three runs on two hits and two Yellow Jacket errors in the bottom of the first. Hayes scored on an error for the innings' first run before Michela Calloway brought home two with a single.
Lewis scored on a passed ball in the top of the second to cut the Guilford lead to 3-1 but the Quakers used a Sarah Cutright RBI groundout to go back on top 4-1.
The Yellow Jackets cut the advantage to 4-3 in the fourth after Laura Bauer and Lewis led off with back to back doubles. Bauer scored later in the inning on a Megan Shepherd sacrifice fly and Lewis came home on another passed ball.
Greene put Randolph-Macon ahead in the top of the seventh when she doubled home Lacey Berry and Jessie Jaeger. Bauer singled home Greene later in the inning to give R-MC a 6-4 edge heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Guilford led off the seventh with two singles before Ami Hutcherson cut the deficit to one with an RBI base hit. Ashley Stacy's run scoring groundout tied the game at 6-6 with two outs. Cutright then singled to right, scoring Hutcherson and giving the Quakers a 7-6 win.
Lewis is stuck with the loss after allowing three earned runs over two and two thirds innings. Brandi Wilson gave up two hits and no earned runs in four innings of relief for the Yellow Jackets.
Shelby Bowser retired the only batter she faced in the seventh inning and earns the win in relief. Boteler allowed four earned over six and two thirds innings with two strikeouts.
Courtney Kozar had the only multi-hit game for the Quakers going 2-for-4.
Randolph-Macon Softball returns to action Thursday, March 17th when they travel to Virginia Wesleyan for a 2:30 ODAC doubleheader.
