Box Score 2 Paige Smith went deep twice and Laura Bauer added a three run homerun as Randolph-Macon Softball finished off a doubleheader sweep of Randolph College 10-4 in Ashland Saturday. Michalann Camp's walk-off single in the eighth inning of game one gave the Yellow Jackets a 2-1 victory.
Smith went 4-for-6 with two homeruns, six RBI and a sacrifice fly over the doubleheader to lead R-MC at the plate. Morgan Greene finished 4-for-7 at the dish with an RBI while Lauryn Nanny had a 3-for-6 day with two doubles and an RBI.
Heather Lewis claimed her eighth victory of the season inside the circle for Randolph-Macon after allowing just one run and striking out six over eight innings of game one. Kristen Dize gave up three runs on six hits while striking out two in five innings to improve to 5-0 on the season. Brandi Wilson allowed just one run on two hits with three strikeouts to close out the final two innings of game two.
Randolph College struck early in game one when Ashley Gardner singled home Brittany Willingham with two outs in the top of the first.
The Yellow Jackets evened the score in the bottom of the fifth after Nanny led off with a double, advanced to third on a Greene sacrifice bunt and then scored on a Smith sacrifice fly.
After holding Randolph scoreless in the top of the eighth, Randolph-Macon threatened to score when Smith singled up the middle and advanced to second when the WildCats attempted to throw out Greene at third. A walk to Bauer loaded the bases for Camp who ripped a single to left, scoring Smith and giving the Yellow Jackets a 2-1 victory.
Randolph scored first again in game two on a Gardner infield single that scored Lauren Stevenson in the top of the first.
Smith responded for Randolph-Macon in the bottom half, belting a two run homerun to left center that also scored Greene.
Greene singled home Nanny in the third which set up Smith for another two run shot to left center that extended the Jackets lead to 5-1.
Stevenson cut the R-MC advantage to 5-2 when she tripled home Alexis Arnett in the top of the third.
Smith drove in another run in the fourth when she stepped to plate with the bases loaded and delivered a single up the middle. Bauer put Randolph-Macon up 7-2 with a sacrifice fly that plated Nanny.
The Jackets tacked on three more in the sixth on a three run shot from Bauer. Randolph pushed across a run in the sixth and in the seventh to make the final 10-4.
Randolph-Macon Softball travels to Guilford Sunday, March 13th for a 1:30 ODAC doubleheader.
