St. John Fisher Uses Late Run to top R-MC Men's Lax 18-12

ASHLAND, VA –St. John Fisher used a late run to pull away from the Randolph-Macon Men's Lacrosse team and win 18-12 Tuesday afternoon in Ashland.

Randolph-Macon was led by Justin Butler and Jake Leddy who each had hat tricks in the win. Brian Rowe and Jason Andrews each had two goals in the loss as well. Jason Crawford made 11 stops in the cage for R-MC.

Fisher which is receiving votes in this week's top-25 poll, came out of the gates strong, taking a 4-1 advantage after Connor Henderson struck with just under five minutes to go in the fourth quarter.

R-MC's Josh Merwin cut the SJF lead to 4-2 with a goal with 21 seconds to go in the opening quarter.

After St. John Fisher opened the second stanza scoring, goals by the Jackets' Jason Andrew and Tyler Midwinter made the score 5-4 with 11:08 to play in the half.

The Cardinals then pushed their lead to 8-4 with three straight goals, two of which coming off the stick of Henderson.

An Andrews tally with just over a minute to go in the half, closed out the scoring and sent the teams to the intermission with SJF up 8-5.

Henderson extended the Fisher lead to 9-5 with a goal just 13 seconds into the third quarter before goals by Brian Rowe and Butler 22 seconds apart pulled R-MC within in two at 9-7.

After SJF went up 11-7, Leddy scored back-to-back goals, making the score 11-9 with 2:55 to go in the third quarter.

A Mike Byrens goals with 10 seconds to left in the quarter sparked what proved to be a 7-1 run for the Cardinals that was capped by a Kyle Denhoff score with just under minutes to play in the game, making it a 18-8 contest.

Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Goucher College at 1:00 p.m.
