Box Score 2 Michalann Camp's walk off single in the bottom of the seventh propelled the Yellow Jackets to a 3-2 game one win over Frostburg State Saturday in Ashland. Paige Smith led R-MC to a 6-3 game two win with a homerun and three RBI.
Frostburg State took a 2-0 lead after an RBI single from Jenna Delaney and a run scoring double off the bat of Caitlin Lovend.
The Yellow Jackets cut the Bobcats' advantage to 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth when Smith belted a solo homerun to left.
Lauryn Nanny led off the bottom of the seventh with a single to right center then stole second on the next pitch. After an Alex Gregoire groundout advanced Nanny to third, Heather Lewis ripped a single to right that scored Nanny and tied the game at 2-2.
Morgan Greene then reached on a Frostburg State error that put runners on second and third with two outs for Camp who knocked a line drive single to right center to score Lewis and give Randolph-Macon the 3-2 victory.
Lewis also picks up her second win of the season, allowing just one earned run on four and striking out five over seven innings in the circle.
Laura Bauer and Nanny both finished 2-for-3 to lead the Yellow Jackets at the plate. Smith's homerun was R-MC's only extra base hit.
Megan Magee is stuck with the loss for Frostburg after giving up two earned runs on eight hits and striking out two.
The Bobcats scored two runs in the first inning of game two on a two run homerun from Shari Beavers to take an early lead but the Yellow Jackets responded in the bottom half with a two run shot of their own off the bat of Smith.
Nanny led off the bottom of the third with a single and advanced all the way to third on a Camp sacrifice bunt. Smith took advantage of the runner in scoring position and ripped a single up the middle to put R-MC ahead 3-2.
Frostburg tied the game in the top of the fourth on a solo homerun from Lovend but again Randolph-Macon responded with a run in the bottom half on a Carolyn Gilbertson sacrifice fly that scored Greene.
Lacey Berry singled down the left field line in the sixth to score Katie McCauley and push the Yellow Jackets advantage to 5-3. Lewis added another key insurance run for R-MC when she had a pinch hit, RBI double down the left field line.
Lewis came on to pitch in the top of the seventh, relieving starter Kristen Dize who allowed just three runs over six innings. The sophomore lefty retired Frostburg State in order to earn her first save of the season and secure Randolph-Macon's 6-3 game two victory.
Smith finished 2-for-2 at the dish with a homerun and three RBI. Nanny and Gregoire also chipped in with two hits.
Randolph-Macon Softball returns to action Sunday, February 27th when they host Dickinson for a 1:30 doubleheader.
