Big Second Inning Sends R-MC to 15-4 Win over North Carolina Wesleyan

Randolph-Macon Baseball used a six run, two out, rally in the second to get past North Carolina Wesleyan 15-4 in Ashland on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets improve to 2-1 overall while the Battling Bishops fall to 3-5.

Christian Boghossian put North Carolina Wesleyan College up 1-0 in the top of the first with an RBI single to centerfield.

Randolph-Macon responded with two runs in the bottom half on an RBI double from Jordan Walton and a Cory Jackson run scoring single.

The Yellow Jackets broke the game open in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs, all with two outs, on six hits and two walks. Jeb Weymouth plated Jake Fletcher with a single up the middle to start the scoring. Walton followed with an RBI single to score Greg Mitro for the second run of the inning. A walk to Jay Lichter loaded the bases for Jackson who singled up the middle to score Weymouth and Walton. James Bierlein capped the inning with a two run double in the right center gap that put R-MC up 8-1 after two innings.

Jackson's sacrifice fly in the fourth pushed the lead to 9-1 before two more runs scored in the fifth on a Bishops' throwing error.

North Carolina Wesleyan cut the advantage to 11-4 in the sixth on a three run homerun from the Bishops' catcher Tyler Clark but, the Jackets rallied for one in the sixth and three in the eighth to seal the win 15-4.

Randolph-Macon sophomore Jamie Hendrick earns his first win as a Yellow Jacket, allowing four earned over six innings with a strikeout. Tyler Kane and Kevin Soltis combined for three scoreless innings to close out the game. Kane allowed just one hit while Soltis struck out three and did not allow a runner.

Five Yellow Jackets had a multi-hit game led by Walton who went 4-for-5 on the day with a double and two RBI. Jackson was a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish with four RBI and was hit by a pitch. Fletcher drove in two runs in the eighth to highlight 2-for-4 day at the plate. Nick Digby and Weymouth added two hits each.

Chad Womble picks up the loss for the Bishops after allowing four earned runs and striking out four in one and two thirds innings on the bump.

Clark paced NCWC at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a homerun and three RBI.

Randolph-Macon travels to Christopher Newport University Thursday, February 17th for a 2:00. The Jackets return to the New Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park Saturday, February 19th for a noon doubleheader against Rowan to start a three game set.
