Box Score ASHLAND, Va--- Bridgewater topped Randolph-Macon, 3-2 in overtime Wednesday afternoon in field hockey action. The Yellow Jackets fell to 7-7, 4-2 in ODAC play, while the Eagles improved to 9-6, 5-2 in the conference.
The loss snapped R-MC's five game winning streak and pushed Bridgewater to a game up in the win column over Randolph-Macon in the ODAC standings. The Yellow Jackets now hold a 9-6 edge in the series, dating back to the year 2000. The win was BC's first over RMC since 2008.
Bridgewater got on the board first, when Galen Goodman scored off of a Kelly Ryan assist midway through the first stanza. Randolph-Macon attacked throughout the first half, outshooting BC, 13-7 but entered the intermission down 1-0.
R-MC evened the score just two minutes into the second period when Mikalea Rumley found the back of the cage off a feed from Rachael Gardner. The Yellow Jackets took the lead in the 59th when Lauren Seal found a streaking Carrie Jacobs for her team-best eighth score of the season. Seal leads the team in assists with five.
With just under seven minutes remaining, Goodman tied the game with an unassisted goal. The score remained tied through the rest of regulation. Four minutes into the extra period, Goodman scored the game-winner and recorded the hat trick.
Garnder led R-MC with five shots, four on goal, while Goodman paced BC with six shots, five that tested the keeper.
Nicole Woodworth took the loss in goal for Randolph-Macon, registering nine saves on the afternoon. Taylor Waddell picked up the victory for Bridgewater, stopping 17 shots in the game.
The Yellow Jackets outshot the Eagles, 24-14, including a 19-12 edge in shots on goal. The women also held a 15-9 advantage in penalty corners.
R-MC returns to action Saturday, October 22nd when they travel to Lexington to take on Washington and Lee. The match is set for 2:00 p.m. start.
