Box Score Taylor Wieczorek notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds as Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball picked up a 71-45 win over Emory and Henry in Ashland Saturday. Maggie Roy and Christina Phelps also chipped in with 13 points.
With the score tied 6-6 and 12:45 remaining in the first half, R-MC freshman Christina Phelps dropped in a layup as she was fouled and converted the free throw to spark a 9-1 Jackets run later capped by a Jillian Asay three.
Christina Howard pulled the Wasps within four when she sunk a mid range jumper with 9:27 to go in opening stanza.
Phelps answered for Randolph-Macon on the next possession with a layup which started a 15-3 spurt that put the Jackets up 30-14 on a Jennifer O'Briant trifecta seven minutes later.
Another Phelps bucket at the end of the first half gave R-MC a 36-18 advantage heading into the intermission.
Randolph-Macon continued to build their lead in the second half and went up 56-24 on a jumper by Molly Brown with 8:32 to play.
The Jackets led by as many as 33 in the second half before finishing off the Wasps 71-45.
Wieczorek recorded her second double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The freshman Phelps finished with a career high in points with 13 and rebounds with nine. Roy also chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Jordan Cantrell dropped in 12 points and six boards while O'Briant had 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Randolph-Macon held a 62-33 rebounding advantage and shot 43.8% from the field including 31.8% from beyond the arc.
Jalan McPherson scored 13 to pace the Emory and Henry offense which shot 23.5% from the field.
The Yellow Jackets return to the hardwood Tuesday, January 11th when they travel to Virginia Wesleyan for a 7:00 ODAC contest.
