Box Score The Yellow Jackets' defense held Bridgewater to four field goals while forcing 20 turnovers in the first period alone as Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball downed Bridgewater 69-56 in Ashland Saturday.
After a fast paced three minutes to start the game, Bridgewater jumped to a 5-0 lead, all coming from the hand of Jessica Mullen.
Jillian Asay knocked down a jumper with just under 11 minutes to play to give Randolph-Macon their first lead of the contest.
The two team traded baskets and the lead for the next four minutes until a Molly Brown free throw followed by a Maggie Roy three ignited a 16-0 run for the Jackets that was finished off with a Jordan Cantrell trifecta at the 2:08 mark.
Mullen knocked down three foul shots for the Eagles to cut the Jackets' advantage to 25-13 heading into halftime.
Bridgewater rallied in the second half and pulled within six at 36-30 with 13:30 remaining but Cantrell knocked down a jumper from beyond the arc for R-MC on the next possession to go back on top by nine.
Randolph-Macon built their lead up to 12 several times throughout the second half but the Eagles cut the lead to 62-56 on two free throws from Jordan Burkholder with under a minute to play.
The Jackets defense clamped down in the final 45 seconds, holding the Eagles scoreless and finishing on the offensive end with a 7-0 run to win by a final of 69-56.
R-MC placed four players in double figures including Taylor Wieczorek who finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. Brown also chipped in with 11 points while Roy finished with 12 points and five steals. Cantrell knocked down three trifectas and a free throw for ten points while senior Jennifer O'Briant has six points and six steals.
Mullen paced Bridgewater with 21 points and five rebounds. Burkholder, the ODAC's leading scorer, dropped 17 points, all coming in the second half.
Bridgewater came into Saturday's game averaging an ODAC best 74.5 points a game but the Jackets' held them to a season low 56 on 31% shooting including a 1-for-6 mark from the three. Randolph-Macon shot 44.9% from the floor and held a slim 38-36 edge on the boards.
