Box Score Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball (8-4 / 6-1 ODAC) held Virginia Wesleyan to just 5-of-41 shooting in the second half on the way to a 64-46 victory in Norfolk Tuesday night. Maggie Roy led the way with 16 points while Taylor Wieczorek tallied a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Katie Williams scored the game's first bucket to give the Yellow Jackets an early 2-0 lead before the Marlins rallied to score the next eight and take an 8-2 advantage on a Kristina Jameson triple.
R-MC responded with a three from Jillian Asay on the next possession which was followed by a Williams layup to cut the VWC advantage to one.
A Kerry Johnson two with 6:30 to play in the first half pushed the Marlins lead back to six at 21-15 but again Asay knocked down a trifecta on the next Jackets' possession to spark a 12-0 Randolph-Macon run. Freshman Paige Mills capped the offensive streak when she knocked down a jumper with 3:31 left to give R-MC a 27-21 edge.
Maggie Roy tallied three of her nine first half points with 31 seconds to go to stretch the advantage to seven but a Beth Ann Boyce triple at the halftime buzzer pulled Virginia Wesleyan within four at 32-28 heading into intermission.
The teams traded baskets throughout the beginning of the second period before Randolph-Macon went on a 15-2 run started by four straight points from Taylor Wieczorek and finished off with a Williams' layup that put R-MC up 53-37 with just under eight minutes to play.
Randolph-Macon continued their stifling second half defense and held Virginia Wesleyan to 18 second half points on 5-of-41 shooting from the field. The Jackets led by as many as 19 before finishing off the Marlins 64-46.
Wieczorek recorded her second consecutive double-double and third of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds including six on the offensive end. Roy dropped in 16 points to go with her five rebounds and three assists.
Kristen Blalock led the Marlins with 15 points and eight rebounds while teammate Kerry Johnson chipped in with 10 points and eight boards.
Randolph-Macon shot 35.5% from the field and 30.8% beyond the arc while outrebounding Virginia Wesleyan 57-44.
