LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph-Macon Men's Lacrosse team led
No. 15 Lynchburg for most of the night, but the Hornets used three
late goals to edge the Yellow Jackets 13-11 Wednesday night in ODAC
action.
Lynchburg improves to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in the league, while
R-MC drops to 5-5 and 2-2 in the ODAC.
Tyler Midwinter got R-MC on the board 1:06 into the game, taking
a feed from Bobby Bailey and scoring to put R-MC up 1-0. Taylor
Wicke then doubled the Jackets advantage just over a minute later
on an unassisted strike.
After Ben Sauer cracked the scoreboard for LC, Patrick Eagan and
Brian Rowe scored back-to-back goals to put R-MC up 4-1 with eight
minutes to go in the first quarter.
Each team scored goals before the end of the first stanza and LC
cut its deficit to 5-3 on a Chris Eggling tally 24 seconds into the
second quarter.
With the score 6-4 in favor of R-MC, the Jackets' Josh Merwin
and Brian Rowe scored back-to-back goals, giving R-MC an 8-4
advantage with 10:56 to go in the half.
LC reeled off the final three goals on the opening half to make
the game 8-7 in favor of R-MC at the break.
Eddie Blinkas opened the third quarter with a goal at the 13:54
mark, knotting the game at 8-8. The Jackets then got goals from
Jake Leddy and Billy Rowe to take a 10-8 edge with just over eight
minutes to play in the third.
The Hornets scored the next two goals, tying the contest at
10-10 on a Max Vournard score with 3:19 remaining in the quarter.
Midwinter took a pass from Jake Leddy and scored to put R-MC up
11-10 with 13:47 to go in the game, but LC would get the final
three goals of the contest. The final two scores coming off
the stick of Dylan Hoff with under four minutes to play, securing
the victory.
R-MC goalkeeper Jason Crawford made 17 saves on the night for
R-MC, while Brian Rowe, Wicke, Egan and Midwinter all had two goals
in the loss.
Andrew Wilfong led LC with a hat trick, while Ronald St. Clair
Barrie played the final 40 minutes in net for the Hornets, making
six stops.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Saturday when it steps
out of conference to take on Neumann at 1:00 p.m. in Ashland.
