Box Score ASHLAND, VA—Erin Claire Cassidy netted three goals and
forced a late turnover to seal Randolph-Macon Women's
Lacrosse 10-9 victory over Guilford College Saturday in Ashland.
The Yellow Jackets improve to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the ODAC while
the Quakers fall to 5-5 overall, 2-3 in the conference.
R-MC started the game on a 6-1 run capped by a Kelly Egan goal
off of a Holly Sargeant pass with 14:53 to go in the first half.
Ellie Merritt scored two of the next three goals for Guilford to
cut Randolph-Macon's lead to 7-3 heading into the
intermission.
Cassidy took an Egan pass to score her third goal of the game
less than two minutes into the second half, extending the
Jackets' lead to 8-3.
After a Quakers goal cut the lead to four, Emily Kent
capitalized on a free position shot to put Randolph-Macon up 9-4.
Guilford's Carrie Ernst rattled off two quick goals before
Merritt netted her third goal of the game with 8:40 to play,
pulling GC within two at 9-7.
Kelly Cramer gave R-MC a 10-7 advantage with an unassisted goal
at the 3:14 mark.
The Quakers then struck for two goals in 12 seconds to cut the
deficit to 10-9 with just over a minute to play.
Following the goal, Guilford controlled the draw and threatened
to score before Cassidy forced a turnover, allowing Randolph-Macon
to hold on for the 10-9 win.
R-MC held a 33-19 advantage in shots and also converted 12-of-13
clears.
Cassidy led the Jackets with four total points including three
goals and one assist. Cramer, Egan and Kent all netted two goals
each.
Ernst and Merritt both scored three goals to pace Guilford. The
Quakers' goalie Alyzza-May Callahan made a game high 14
saves.
Randolph-Macon Women's Lacrosse will be back in action
Tuesday, April 6th, when they travel to Roanoke College
for a 7:00 p.m. game.
