SALEM, VA—Laura Bauer's two
run homerun in the top of the fifth tied the game at 3-3 for
Randolph-Macon but Virginia Wesleyan rallied for two runs in the
bottom of the fifth and three in the sixth to get past the Yellow
Jackets 8-3 in semifinal game of the ODAC Softball Tournament
Sunday. With the loss, R-MC is eliminated from the tournament after
posting a 2-2 record.
VWC pushed across two runs in the bottom of the second on an RBI
double from Jaclyn Quinn and an R-MC error.
Michalann Camp (Courtland, VA/ South Hampton Academy) put the
Yellow Jackets on the board in the top of the third when she
singled up the middle to score Morgan Greene
(Virginia Beach, VA/ Tallwood).
Due to rain, play was suspended Saturday night with one out in
the bottom of the third.
The game resumed Sunday at noon and the Marlins scored a run on
a Jaclyn Quinn double to go up 3-1.
After a Lauryn Nanny
(Chester, VA/ Thomas Dale) single, Bauer (New Kent, VA/ New Kent)
belted a homerun to centerfield to tie the game at 3-3.
Virginia Wesleyan then responded with two runs on three hits and
a Jackets' error to go back on top 5-3. Quinn highlighted the
inning with an RBI single up the middle.
Chelsea Henline capped a three run sixth for VWC with an RBI
single as the Marlins pulled away for the 8-3 win.
Kristen
Dize (Onancock, VA/ Nandua) is stuck with the loss for R-MC
after allowing three earned runs and striking out six in four
innings of work. Heather Lewis (Glen Allen, VA/ Deep Run) gave up
no earned runs in two innings of relief.
Bauer led the Jackets at the plate with a homerun and two RBI.
Brittany Brown picked up her 25th win of the season
after giving up just two hits in two and two thirds innings in the
circle. Quinn finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI.
Randolph-Macon Softball concludes their 2010 season with an
overall record of 17-13 and a program best 11-7 ODAC mark. The
Yellow Jackets' run to the semi-finals of the ODAC tournament is
the deepest run for an R-MC softball team in school history.
