ASHLAND, VA—Randolph-Macon took a 5-0 lead in the second
inning before Bridgewater rallied past the Yellow Jackets 19-9 on
day three of the ODAC Tournament in Lynchburg Saturday. With the
loss, R-MC is eliminated from the tournament and finishes the 2010
season with an 18-16 record.
Jeb Weymouth (Rockville, VA/ Hanover) put the Jackets on the
board in the top of the first with an RBI single that scored Brian Jordan (Columbia, VA/ Goochland) from second. Jordan Walton
(Mechanicsville, VA/ Lee Davis) then singled home another run with
a single to left. Jay Lichter (Richmond, VA/ Varina) plated
Weymouth with a sacrifice fly and Cory Jackson (Beaverdam, VA/
PH-Ashland) capped the inning with a run scoring double to
left.
Randolph-Macon took a 5-0 lead after Lichter singled home a run
in the top of the second.
Bridgewater then rallied for ten runs on seven hits and a
Jackets' error to go in front 10-5. Drew Elkins highlighted
the Eagles big inning with a three run double down the left field
line.
BC pushed across five runs in the third, three in the fifth and
one in the sixth to extend their lead to 19-5.
Chris Mereen (Charlottesville, VA/ St. Anne's-Belfield)
sparked a rally for the Yellow Jackets with a double to lead off
the eighth. Mereen then scored on a double from Jake Fletcher
(Deltaville, VA/ Middlesex) one batter later. Jordan followed with
a single to score two runs and cut the Bridgewater lead to
19-8.
Lichter scored in the ninth on another Mereen double to make the
final score 19-9 in favor of the Eagles.
James Bierlein (Chesterfield, VA/ Matoaca) is stuck with the
loss after allowing six earned runs in one and two thirds innings
on the mound. Matt Tiller (Midlothian, VA/ Clover Hill) allowed
just four runs in three innings of work while Jordan and Haile Lytton (Mechanicsville, VA/ Hanover) combined for two innings of
scoreless relief on the back end.
Jordan paced the Jackets at the plate going 2-for-4 with two
RBI. Kevin Davis (Hanover, VA/ Hanover), Walton, Jackson, Mereen,
and Fletcher all chipped in with two hits each.
Kevin Chandler picks up the win for Bridgewater after allowing
four earned runs in six and two thirds innings of relief. Elkins
finished 3-for-5 at the plate with a double and three runs batted
in.
Randolph-Macon Baseball concludes their 2010 season with an
18-16 overall record and a 12-6 ODAC mark.
