SALEM, VA— No. 8 seed Eastern Mennonite capitalized on
four Randolph-Macon errors with timely hitting as the Royals gave
the No. 6 seeded Yellow Jackets their first loss of the ODAC
Softball Tournament in Salem Saturday. R-MC will now face Virginia
Wesleyan College Saturday, April 24th at 8:00 p.m.
The Royals went up 2-0 in the first inning on a Jackets'
error and a Nicole Shelton RBI single.
EMU would then tack on two runs in the fourth and two more in
the sixth to take a 6-0 lead into the seventh.
Michalann Camp (Courtland, VA/ South Hampton Academy) and Paige Smith (Harborton, VA/ Nandua) led off the top of the seventh with
singles which setup Lacey Berry (Essex, VA/ Essex) to bring home a
run on a groundout. Randolph-Macon could not push across another
run and Eastern Mennonite took the game 6-1.
Heather Lewis (Glen Allen, VA/ Deep Run) is stuck with the loss
after allowing three earned runs in the three innings of work.
Kristen Dize (Onancock, VA/ Nanuda) pitched two scoreless innings
of relief.
Smith paced the Yellow Jackets at the plate going 2-for-3.
Nicole Wade picks up the win for the Royals after allowing just
one earned run in seven innings in the circle. Jessica Blosser went
2-for-3 with an RBI to lead EMU offensively.
Randolph-Macon will now face Virginia Wesleyan at 8:00 p.m. in
an elimination game.
