Box Score LYNCHBURG, VA – Jay Lichter finished 3-for-4 with an RBI
but Hampden-Sydney scored five in the sixth to get past
Randolph-Macon Baseball 10-4 in the first day of the ODAC
Tournament in Lynchburg on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets will now
face Washington and Lee Friday, April 23rd at 3:00
p.m.
Hampden-Sydney jumped to a 3-0 first inning lead after Justin
Hebert highlighted a three run two out rally with a two run homerun
to leftfield.
Lichter (Richmond, VA/ Varina) put the Yellow Jackets on the
board with an RBI single up the middle in the top of the fourth.
Adam Carpenter (Richmond, VA/ Mills Godwin) plated Jordan Walton
(Mechanicsville, VA/ Lee Davis) later in the inning to pull R-MC
within one at 3-2.
The Tigers answered back in the bottom half scoring two runs on
a Yellow Jackets error and a Herbie Williams' single to go up
5-3.
Zach Harrelson's three run triple highlighted a five run
sixth for Hampden-Sydney to go up 10-2.
Randolph-Macon rallied for two runs in the top of the ninth on
Jeb Weymouth (Rockville, VA/ Hanover) sacrifice fly and a Carpenter
double but the rally fell short and the Tigers won by a final of
10-4.
Lichter paced the Jackets at the plate with a 3-for-4 game and
an RBI. Kyle Hicks falls to 6-2 on the season after allowing one
earned run in three innings of work. Byron Mendenhall (Falls
Church, VA/ George Mason) gave up six earned runs in five innings
on the mound.
Williams led H-SC offensively going 5-for-5 with two RBI and
three stolen bases. Johnny West went the distance to pick up the
win, allowing two earned runs and striking out three.
Randolph-Macon will now face Washington and Lee in day two of
the ODAC tournament at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 23rd
at City Stadium in Lynchburg, VA.
