HARRISONBURG, VA— Paige Smith and Kelly Beard both went
deep to give Randolph-Macon Softball the lead but Bridgewater
overcame the Yellow Jackets 11-3 and 10-5 in Harrisonburg
Saturday.
The Eagles used a single and a Jackets' error in the
bottom of the second to plate two runs and take an early 2-0 lead
in game one.
Lacey Berry (Essex, VA/ Essex) responded for R-MC in the top of
the fourth with a single to center which scored Smith (Harborton,
VA/ Nandua) and Michalann Camp (Courtland, VA/ South Hampton
Academy), tying the game at 2-2.
Beard (Williamsport, MD/ Williamsport) put Randolph-Macon on top
3-2 with an RBI double to center.
Bridgewater then rallied for six runs on six hits in the fifth,
highlighted by a three run homerun from Kristen Combs. The Eagles
tacked on three more in the sixth to take game one 11-3.
Beard is stuck with the loss after allowing five earned runs in
four innings in the circle. Camp finished 2-for-3 to pace the
Jackets at the plate.
Ashley Gills gave up three earned runs in six innings to pick up
the win for Bridgewater. Emily Morris went 3-for-4 with a homerun,
a double and four RBI.
Smith belted a three run homerun in the top of the second in
game two to give Randolph-Macon a 3-0 lead.
Bridgewater answered back with a grand slam from Hillary Rees in
the bottom of the second to go up 4-3.
R-MC went back on top 5-3 after Beard hit a two run homerun with
two outs in the third.
Lauren Childress gave BC the lead in the bottom of the fourth
with a three run homerun to right center. The Eagles added three
more runs in the bottom of the sixth to finish with a 10-5 win.
Heather Lewis (Glen Allen, VA/ Deep Run) picks up the loss after
giving up seven earned runs in six innings of work. Smith paced the
Jackets at the plate with a homerun and three RBI.
Lindsay Lam picks up the win after allowing five runs in seven
innings in the circle. Childress finished 3-for-4 with a homerun
and two RBI.
The Yellow Jackets wrap up the 2010 regular season Sunday, April
18th when they travel to Eastern Mennonite for a 1:30
p.m. doubleheader.
