ASHLAND, VA—Jeb Weymouth belted a two run homerun to right
with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning to send
Randolph-Macon Baseball past Lynchburg College 8-7. The Hornets won
the first game of Tuesday's ODAC doubleheader in Ashland
7-1.
Chris Calquhoun highlighted a three run top of the first in game
one for Lynchburg with a double to left center. A Ryan Litz RBI
sacrifice fly in the third put the Hornets up 4-0.
Randolph-Macon manufactured a run in the bottom of the third but
Lynchburg tacked on two runs in the fourth and one in the sixth to
finish with a 7-1 victory.
Matt Tiller (Midlothian, VA/ Clover) is stuck with the loss
after allowing six runs in four innings on the mound.
Brian Jordan (Columbia, VA/ Goochland) and Kevin Davis (Hanover,
VA/ Hanover) both finished 2-for-4 with Davis also hitting a
double.
Matt Morgan earns the win for Lynchburg after allowing one run
in seven innings.
Jordan broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning
in game two with a double to right center, scoring Ryan Hughes
(Crozet, VA/ Western Albemarle) from second. Jordan Walton
(Mechanicsville, VA/ Lee Davis) then plated Jordan with a single up
the middle. Davis scored later in the inning on a Lynchburg error
to put Randolph-Macon on top 3-0.
Litz put the Hornets on the board in the top of the fourth with
a sacrifice fly that scored Colquhoun.
Lynchburg pulled within one after Mike Walters hit a solo
homerun to right center in the top of the fifth.
Four consecutive two out singles by the Jackets in the bottom of
the fifth extended their lead back to three runs at 5-2.
The Hornets rallied for three runs in the ninth on three hits
with the tying run scoring on a Watkins sacrifice fly.
After a scoreless 10th inning, LC rallied for two runs in the
top of the 11th on a bases loaded hit by a pitch and a
sacrifice fly to go up 7-5.
Hughes led off the bottom of the 11th with a double
down the left line and would score later in the inning on an RBI
groundout by Jordan. Michael Helbig (Midlothian, VA/ Midlothian)
then drew a two out walk to put the tying run on first. Weymouth
(Rockville, VA/ Hanover) stepped to the plate next and ripped a
line drive homerun to right field, giving the Jackets an 8-7 walk
off win.
Justin Thorn (Mechanicsville, VA/ Hanover) picks up the win in
relief. Weymouth paced R-MC at the plate going 3-for-5 with a
homerun and an RBI. Walton also went 3-for-5 with two runs batted
in.
Ryan McDonough is stuck with the loss after allowing three runs
in two thirds of an inning. Walters finished 3-for-6 with a
homerun, a double and an RBI.
Randolph-Macon will host ODAC rival Hampden-Sydney Saturday,
April 17th for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader. This will be
the Yellow Jackets final home games of the 2010 season and a
farewell to Hugh Stephens Field.
