ASHLAND, VA—Kelly Beard put Randolph-Macon Softball up 4-3
in the sixth inning of game two but Lynchburg rallied for three
runs in the top of the seventh to complete a doubleheader sweep of
the Yellow Jackets 8-2 and 6-4. R-MC falls to 9-9 overall and 5-5
in the ODAC while LC improves to 21-9, 11-1 in the ODAC.
Laura Bauer (New Kent, VA/ New Kent) blasted a two run homerun
in the bottom of the third to give Randolph-Macon a 2-0 lead in
game one.
The Hornets responded with four runs on four hits in the fourth
highlighted by a two run single off the bat of Ashley
Hohenberger.
Lynchburg pushed across another run in the top of the fifth on
an RBI groundout before Taylor Walker belted a three run homerun to
left, giving LC an 8-2 advantage which would prove to be the
final.
Christi Wise (Akron, PA/ Ephrata) is stuck with the loss after
allowing three earned runs in three and two thirds innings of work.
Beard (Williamsport, MD/ Williamsport) gave up three earned runs in
two and third innings of relief.
Katie Bruce allowed two runs on seven hits to pick up the win
for the Hornets. Walker finished 2-for-3 with a homerun and three
RBI.
Bruce doubled home a run in the first inning of game two, giving
Lynchburg an early 1-0 lead.
Freshman catcher Michalann Camp (Courtland, VA/ South Hampton
Academy) responded for the Jackets in the bottom half with a three
run homerun to left.
Audra Della Rosa cut the R-MC lead to 3-2 in the fourth with an
RBI double to left. The Hornets then tied the game in the fifth on
a Lauren Duguay run scoring single.
Beard put Randolph-Macon back on top in the bottom of the sixth
with a solo homerun to left field.
After Lynchburg tied the game on a sacrifice fly in the top of
the seventh, RBI doubles from Jenny Carroll and Walker pushed the
Hornets in front 6-4.
The Yellow Jackets loaded the bases in the bottom half of the
seventh with one out but could not push across a run and the
Hornets held on for the 6-4 win.
Heather Lewis (Glen Allen, VA/ Deep Run) picks up the loss after
allowing four earned runs and striking out four in six and a third
innings of work.
Camp led R-MC at the plate with a 3-for-4 game including a
homerun, a double and three runs batted in.
Caitlin Dolby gave up four runs and struck out three in six and
a third innings of work to earn her eighth win of the season for
LC. Bruce recorded the final two outs to earn the save.
Randolph-Macon Softball will play their regular season home
finale Sunday, April 11th when they host Guilford
College for a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader.
