Box Score 2 GREENSBORO, NC—R-MC First baseman Jordan Walton went
5-for-8 over both games of a doubleheader with three doubles and
five RBI as Randolph-Macon Baseball Swept Guilford 7-2 and 9-3 in
Greensboro Saturday. The Yellow Jackets improve their record to
15-12 overall and 10-4 in the ODAC.
Walton (Mechanicsville, VA/ Lee Davis) put the Jackets on the
board in top of the first of game one with an RBI single to left
center. Adam
Carpenter (Richmond, VA/ Mills Godwin) scored Walton later in
the inning on a single to put R-MC up 2-0.
Randolph-Macon manufactured two runs in the top of the third on
an RBI groundout and passed ball to extend their lead to 4-0.
The Yellow Jackets capitalized on a Quakers' error in the
top of the fifth to score two more runs and take a 6-0 lead.

Weymouth (Rockville, VA/ Hanover) hit a one out double in the
top sixth before scoring on a Walton double in the next at bat.
Randolph-Macon starting pitcher Michael Helbig (Midlothian, VA/
Midlothian) allowed two runs in the seventh inning before retiring
the side and sealing the 7-2 Yellow Jacket win. Helbig allowed just
two runs while striking out three in seven innings for his third
win of the season.
Walton paced R-MC at the plate going 2-for-2 with a double, two
RBI and two walks; Carpenter drove in three runs.
Zach Daw is stuck with the loss for Guilford after allowing
three earned runs in three innings of work. The Quakers' Will
Cornelius finished 2-for-3 with a double.
The Yellow Jackets took an early lead in game two, scoring three
runs on three hits and a Quakers' error. Brian Jordan
(Columbia, VA/ Goochland) led off the game with a double to right
center and scored later in the inning on a passed ball. Walton
doubled home Weymouth with one out and James Bierlein
(Chesterfield, VA/ Matoaca) drew a bases loaded walk to score
Walton and put R-MC up 3-0.
Bierlein's two run homerun in the third sparked a four run
inning for Randolph-Macon. Davis stepped to the plate three batters
later and belted a two run homerun of his own to put the Jackets up
7-0.
Kyle Wooden put Guilford on the board with an RBI single in the
bottom of the fifth. The Quakers then scored on a passed ball to
pull within five at 7-2.
GC cut the lead to four on a Jay Cox RBI double in the bottom of
the eighth inning.
Walton singled home two runs in the top of the ninth to put
Randolph-Macon up 9-3 which would hold to be the final.
Kyle Hicks
(Goochland, VA/ Goochland) allowed no earned runs and struck out
six on the way to his fifth win of the season. Byron Mendenhall
(Falls Church, VA/ George Mason) allowed just one run in three
innings of relief for the save.
Davis led the Jackets with a 4-for-6 game at the plate including
a homerun and two RBI. Walton finished 3-for-6 with two doubles and
three RBI.
Adam Hart picks up the loss after allowing seven runs in two and
third innings of work. Reid MacLean gave up two runs and struck out
five in five and two third innings of relief.
Casey Mann had a 4-for-5 game at the plate to pace the Quakers.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action Tuesday, April
13th when they host Lynchburg College for a 1:30 p.m.
