ASHLAND, VA – Billy Rowe scored four goals, while Jake
Leddy and Josh Merwin each added three strikes as Randolph-Macon
topped Neumann 19-7, Saturday afternoon in men's lacrosse action in
Ashland.
R-MC (6-5) also got a pair of scores from Tyler Midwinter,
Taylor Wicke and Brian Rowe in the victory.
Midwinter dished out four assists and Leddy added three helpers
to his hat trick as well. Adam Liberto and Jason Crawford split
time in net for R-MC, combinin--g 14 saves in the win.
Justin Malikoux who scored two goals in the loss led Neumann
(2-8). Andrew Neubaur played the entire game in the cage for the
Knights, making 14 saves.
Wicke and Egan got R-MC out to an early leady with back-to-back
goals 2:44 into the contest, before Mailkoux got the Knights on the
board at the 11:40 mark of the opening quarter.
R-MC would get two goals from Billy Rowe and tallies from Kevin
Patton and Leddy to open up a 6-1 advantage after the first 15
minutes of play.
The Yellow Jackets pushed their lead to 10-1, scoring the
first four goals of the second quarter before Neumann cut its
deficit to 10-2 on a Steve Lis goal with 4:10 to play in the
half.
Midwinter and Wicke each scored in the final 1:30 of the second,
to send the teams to the locker room with R-MC up 12-2.
R-MC tacked on to their lead with four, third quarter goals,
with scores from from Brian Rowe, Billy Rowe, Merwin and Midwinter,
pushing its lead to 16-4 after three quarters.
The Jackets outshot Neumann 58-26 and won the ground ball game
42-40.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action next Saturday at No. 7
Roanoke at 1:00 p.m. in Salem.
