Box Score ASHLAND, VA—Randolph-Macon freshman Jeb Weymouth hit two
homeruns but No. 14 Shenandoah got past R-MC baseball 14-7 in
Ashland Thursday.
The Hornets pushed across a run in the first inning on an RBI
groundout and then tacked on two more in the second on a Kevin
Brashears two run triple to give Shenandoah an early 3-0 advantage.
SU rallied for five runs in the fifth, highlighted by a two run
double off the bat of Greg Van Sickler.
Brian Jordan (Columbia, VA/ Goochland) put the Jackets on the
board with a bases loaded, two run single right center.
R-MC cut the lead to 7-3 after Weymouth (Rockville, VA/ Hanover)
led off the sixth with a solo shot to right field.
Brashears sparked a three run seventh for the Hornets with a two
run double to right field.
Weymouth hit his second homerun of the game in the bottom of the
eighth, this time a two run shot to right, scoring Jordan who led
off the inning with a double.
The Jackets rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth
before the Hornets shut the door for the 14-7 win.
Byron Mendenhall is stuck with the loss after allowing six
earned runs and striking out two in five innings of work.
Weymouth paced Randolph-Macon at the plate with two homeruns and
three RBI. Jordan, Kevin Davis (Hanover, VA/ Hanover), James
Bierlein (Chesterfield, VA/ Matoaca), and Ryan Hughes (Crozet, VA/
Western Albemarle) also chipped in with two hits each.
Jake Yocum earned the win for Shenandoah, allowing five earned
runs in eight and two thirds innings of work.
Brashears finished 3-for-6 with a double, a triple and four runs
batted in. Van Sickler had two hits with a double and three RBI.
Randolph-Macon travels to Washington and Lee Saturday, April
3rd, for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
