RICHMOND, VA—Virginia Commonwealth University rallied for
a seven run sixth inning on the way to a 12-0 win over
Randolph-Macon College Tuesday night at The Diamond. Greg Mitro had
a single and a double to lead the Yellow Jackets against the NCAA
Division I Rams.
Randolph-Macon put runners at the corners with two outs in the
first on singles from Mitro (Richmond, VA/ Mills Godwin) and Jordan
Walton (Mechanicsville, VA/ Lee-Davis) but could not push across a
run.
John Lenherr broke a scoreless tie in the second with a solo
homerun to right for VCU. Doug Otto put the Rams up 2-0 with an RBI
single in the third.
The Yellow Jackets were down just 2-0 in the sixth before the
Rams scored seven runs on eight hits to break the game open. VCU
tacked on one run in the seventh and two in the eighth for the 12-0
win.
R-MC starter James Bierlein (Chesterfield, VA/ Matoaca) is stuck
with loss after giving up two runs on six hits and striking out
two.
Seth Greene earned the win for the Rams going four scoreless
innings and giving up two hits.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action Wednesday, March
10th, when they host Averett University at 2:30 p.m.
