ASHLAND, VA-- Randolph-Macon Softball did not allow an earned
run in game two of a doubleheader against Shenandoah in Ashland
Saturday but, The Hornets pushed across one run in the third to
complete the sweep of the Yellow Jackets 4-1 and 1-0.
Jolisa Jones doubled home two runs in the top of the first of
game one to give Shenandoah an early 2-0 advantage.
The Hornets extended the lead to 4-0 on a two run homerun from
Lauren Wall in the top of the third.
Laura Bauer (New Kent, VA/ New Kent) put the Yellow Jackets on
the board in the bottom of the third when she singled to right
center, scoring Lauryn Nanny (Chester, VA/ Thomas Dale) from
second.
Randolph-Macon had runners on first and second with no outs in
the bottom of the seventh but, could not push across a run and
Shenandoah took game one 4-1.
Bauer paced the Yellow Jackets at the plate with two hits and an
RBI. The Hornets' Jones went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
R-MC's Kelly Beard (Williamsport, MD/ Williamsport) picks up her
first loss of the season, giving up three earned runs on eight hits
in seven innings of work.
Broke Over earned the win for SU, allowing one run on six hits
while striking out eight.
Game two of Saturday's doubleheader featured a pitcher's duel
between Randolph-Macon's freshman lefty Heather Lewis (Glen Allen,
VA/ Deep Run) and Shenandoah's Amanda Litwin.
The Hornets pushed across the game's only run in the top of
third. Renoula Jones led off with a single and advanced to second
on a sacrifice bunt. Jones scored later in the inning on an error.
Both teams managed just three hits apiece for the game and
Shenandoah held on for the 1-0 victory.
Lewis is stuck with the loss after pitching all seven innings
and allowing no earned runs, three hits with five strikeouts.
Litwin also went the distance and gave up three hits while
striking out one in the win
Randolph-Macon Softball will be back in action Saturday, March
13th, when they host Meredith for a 1:00 p.m.
doubleheader.
