NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Patrick Egan and Jake Leddy each
registered five points as Randolph-Macon topped Christopher Newport
15-8 Wednesday afternoon in men's lacrosse action.
Egan had two goals and dished out three assists, helping the
Jackets even their record at 4-4. Leddy joined Billy Rowe and Tyler
Midwinter with three goals each. Josh Merwin added a pair of goals
for Randolph-Macon, while Adam Liberto made eight stops in net for
R-MC, which outshot CNU 47-27.
Brit Hoover scored three times for CNU which drops to 5-4
overall on the season. Josh Glaser added a pair of goals in the
loss, while Andy McGregor made 16 saves in the cage for the
Captains.
CNU jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Rowe got R-MC on the board
with 7:34 to go in the first quarter.
After a Glaser goal pushed the CNU lead to 3-1, Kevin Patton and
Midwinter scored back-to-back goals to start the second quarter,
evening the contest.
The Captains went up 4-3 on a Hoover strike before R-MC reeled
off three the goals to finish the half, taking a 6-4 advantage on
an Egan tally with 49 seconds left on the clock.
Randolph-Macon extended their run to 7-0 with four goals to
start the third period, taking a 10-4 advantage when Rowe scored
with just under seven minutes to go in the quarter.
With the score 10-5, Leddy and Rowe scored back-to-back goals in
the tail end of the third to put R-MC up 12-5 and seal the victory
for R-MC.
Randolph-Macon will return to ODAC play on Saturday when it
hosts Randolph College at 1:00 p.m. in Ashland.
