ASHLAND, VA—R-MC's Lauryn Nanny went 2-for-3 in game
one but Roanoke used big first innings to sweep Randolph-Macon
Softball 4-1 and 11-0.
Lis Norwich highlighted a four run first inning with a two run
single to give the Maroons a 4-0 advantage.
Randolph-Macon starting pitcher Heather Lewis (Glen Allen, VA/
Deep Run) would settle in after the first inning, allowing no runs
and just four hits for the remainder of the game.
Nanny (Chester, VA/ Thomas Dale) led off the bottom of the sixth
with a single and later scored on an RBI double by Kelly Beard
(Williamsport, MD/ Williamsport) to cut the Maroons lead to 4-1.
Randolph-Macon threatened to score in the bottom of the seventh
after Lacey Berry (Essex, VA/ Essex) led off with a single
but, the Jackets could not push across a run and Roanoke took game
one 4-1.
Nanny paced R-MC with two singles while Beard had a double and
an RBI.
Lewis is stuck with the loss after allowing four runs on nine
hits with six strikeouts.
Roanoke was paced at the plate by Norwich who finished 2-for-3
with two RBI. Norwich also picks up the win after giving up just
one run on five hits with six strikeouts.
The Maroons also used a big first inning in game two, this time
scoring five runs on three hits and three Yellow Jacket errors.
RC tacked on two runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth
on the way to an 11-0 win.
Gretchen Wolfe earns the win for Roanoke, giving up no runs and
two hits with seven strikeouts.
Beard is stuck with the loss after allowing three earned runs
and striking out two in four innings of work.
Randolph-Macon Softball will be back in action Tuesday, March
30th when they host Virginia Wesleyan College for a
doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.
