ASHLAND, VA – The Randolph-Macon Men's Lacrosse team
held a one goal advantage over No. 11 Washington & Lee at
halftime, but the Generals used a five goal third quarter and
held off a late Jackets rally to take an 8-6 decision on
Saturday in Ashland.
Billy Rowe got R-MC (3-4 / 1-1 ODAC) on the board first with a
strike at the 6:57 mark of the opening quarter.
The game remained 1-0 Randolph-Macon until 2:57 left in the
first-half when W&L's Jack Switala scored
unassisted. However, the Yellow Jackets responded just 45
seconds later on an unassisted goal by Tyler Midwinter for a 2-1
lead that they carried into the break.
W&L evened the score at 2-2 with 9:26 left in the third
period when Chris Washington scored an unassisted goal. The
Generals then took the lead 20 seconds later on a Kevin Feeney
tally.
A Will Keigler goal with 4:16 to go in the quarter proved to be
the first of three scores in a span of 32 seconds that pushed the
W&L advantage to 6-2 at the end of the third quarter.
Jake Leddy pulled R-MC within three on a goals set up by
Midwinter 10 seconds into the final quarter.
The Generals got back-to-back goals from Spence Daw and Matt
Mancuso to pull ahead 8-3 with 9:18 to go in the game.
R-MC rallied by scoring three goals, including man-up tallies by
Midwinter and Leddy, in the final 7:07, but the Generals ran out
the final 1:40 to post the win.
Leddy and Midwinter paced the Yellow Jackets with two goals and
one assist each, while Rowe had one goal and one helper. Adam
Liberto played the duration in net and posted 10 saves.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Wednesday when it heads
to Christopher Newport for a 3:00 non-conference tilt.
