No. 11 Washington & Lee Holds off R-MC Men's Lax 8-6

ASHLAND, VA – The Randolph-Macon Men's Lacrosse team held a one goal advantage over No. 11 Washington & Lee at halftime, but the Generals used a five goal third quarter and  held off  a late Jackets rally to take an 8-6 decision on Saturday in Ashland.

Billy Rowe got R-MC (3-4 / 1-1 ODAC) on the board first with a strike at the 6:57 mark of the opening quarter.

The game remained 1-0 Randolph-Macon until 2:57 left in the first-half when W&L's Jack Switala scored unassisted.  However, the Yellow Jackets responded just 45 seconds later on an unassisted goal by Tyler Midwinter for a 2-1 lead that they carried into the break.

W&L evened the score at 2-2 with 9:26 left in the third period when Chris Washington scored an unassisted goal.  The Generals then took the lead 20 seconds later on a Kevin Feeney tally.

A Will Keigler goal with 4:16 to go in the quarter proved to be the first of three scores in a span of 32 seconds that pushed the W&L advantage to 6-2 at the end of the third quarter.

Jake Leddy pulled R-MC within three on a goals set up by Midwinter 10 seconds into the final quarter.

The Generals got back-to-back goals from Spence Daw and Matt Mancuso to pull ahead 8-3 with 9:18 to go in the game.

R-MC rallied by scoring three goals, including man-up tallies by Midwinter and Leddy, in the final 7:07, but the Generals ran out the final 1:40 to post the win.

Leddy and Midwinter paced the Yellow Jackets with two goals and one assist each, while Rowe had one goal and one helper.  Adam Liberto played the duration in net and posted 10 saves.

Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Wednesday when it heads to Christopher Newport for a 3:00 non-conference tilt.
