St. Mary's City, MD – The Yellow Jackets used a four
run sixth inning to take the lead before scoring six in the eighth
to pull away with a 18-7 victory over St. Mary's College in
St. Mary's City Thursday. Randolph-Macon improves to 8-9
on the season and has won three of their last four games.
The Seahawks scored in the first inning on a bases loaded walk
in the first and pushed across another run as the Jackets turned a
double play to go up 2-0.
Randolph-Macon quickly tied the game in the top of the second on
a RBI single from Jeb Weymouth (Rockville, VA/ Hanover) after Kevin
Davis (Hanover, VA/ Hanover) put the Jackets on the board with a
sacrifice fly.
In the top of the third, Ryan Hughes (Crozet, VA/ Western
Albemarle) put R-MC ahead with an RBI single through the right
side, scoring Jay Lichter (Richmond, VA/ Varina) from third.
Justin Rabon doubled down the left field line in the fourth to
score a run for St. Mary's and tie the game at 3-3.
The Yellow Jackets took a 5-3 lead in the fifth after Lichter
scored on an error and Cory Jackson (Beaverdam, VA/ PH-Ashland)
stole home.
St. Mary's answered with two runs in the bottom half on a
two run single from Lyle Kralle to tie things up at 5-5.
Jackson gave Randolph-Macon the lead for good with a bases
loaded, two run single to left in the top of the sixth. James
Bierlein (Chesterfield, VA/ Matoaca) then singled home Hughes and a
bases loaded walk to Brian Jordan (Columbia, VA/ Goochland) put
R-MC up 9-5.
The Seahawks pulled within two in the bottom of the sixth but
that would be as close as they would get as the Yellow Jackets went
on to score six in the eighth and three in the ninth for the 18-7
win.
Kevin Soltis (Dumfries, VA/ Osbourn Park) picks up his first win
of the season in one inning of relief. Bierlein pitched two
scoreless innings for the Jackets with two strikeouts.
Weymouth paced R-MC at the plate with four hits and two RBI.
Davis had two hits with a double and a game high four runs batted
in. Jordan Walton (Mechanicsville, VA/ Lee Davis) finished 3-for-5
with a double and an RBI. Jackson drove in three runs with a single
and three walks.
St. Mary's reliever Matt Becraft takes the loss after
allowing four earned runs in three and third innings of work.
Justin Rabon had a 5-for-5 day at the plate for St. Mary's
with a double and an RBI.
Randolph-Macon Baseball hosts Tufts University Friday, March
26th for a 3:00 p.m. game.
