Randolph-Macon Baseball Takes Down St. Mary's 18-7

St. Mary's City, MD – The Yellow Jackets used a four run sixth inning to take the lead before scoring six in the eighth to pull away with a 18-7 victory over St. Mary's College in St. Mary's City Thursday. Randolph-Macon improves to 8-9 on the season and has won three of their last four games.

The Seahawks scored in the first inning on a bases loaded walk in the first and pushed across another run as the Jackets turned a double play to go up 2-0.

Randolph-Macon quickly tied the game in the top of the second on a RBI single from Jeb Weymouth (Rockville, VA/ Hanover) after Kevin Davis (Hanover, VA/ Hanover) put the Jackets on the board with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the third, Ryan Hughes (Crozet, VA/ Western Albemarle) put R-MC ahead with an RBI single through the right side, scoring Jay Lichter (Richmond, VA/ Varina) from third.

Justin Rabon doubled down the left field line in the fourth to score a run for St. Mary's and tie the game at 3-3.

The Yellow Jackets took a 5-3 lead in the fifth after Lichter scored on an error and Cory Jackson (Beaverdam, VA/ PH-Ashland) stole home.

St. Mary's answered with two runs in the bottom half on a two run single from Lyle Kralle to tie things up at 5-5.

Jackson gave Randolph-Macon the lead for good with a bases loaded, two run single to left in the top of the sixth. James Bierlein (Chesterfield, VA/ Matoaca) then singled home Hughes and a bases loaded walk to Brian Jordan (Columbia, VA/ Goochland) put R-MC up 9-5.

The Seahawks pulled within two in the bottom of the sixth but that would be as close as they would get as the Yellow Jackets went on to score six in the eighth and three in the ninth for the 18-7 win.

Kevin Soltis (Dumfries, VA/ Osbourn Park) picks up his first win of the season in one inning of relief. Bierlein pitched two scoreless innings for the Jackets with two strikeouts.

Weymouth paced R-MC at the plate with four hits and two RBI. Davis had two hits with a double and a game high four runs batted in. Jordan Walton (Mechanicsville, VA/ Lee Davis) finished 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Jackson drove in three runs with a single and three walks.

St. Mary's reliever Matt Becraft takes the loss after allowing four earned runs in three and third innings of work.

Justin Rabon had a 5-for-5 day at the plate for St. Mary's with a double and an RBI.

Randolph-Macon Baseball hosts Tufts University Friday, March 26th for a 3:00 p.m. game.
