WASHINGTON, DC—Michalann Camp's RBI double in the
fourth inning of game one tied the score at 2-2 for R-MC but
Catholic pushed across two runs in the sixth on the way to a
doubleheader sweep 4-2 and 2-0 in Washington Sunday.
Kelly Beard (Williamsport, MD/ Williamsport) put the Jackets up
1-0 in the second after scoring on a Cardinals' error.
Catholic responded with two runs in the bottom half, one coming
on a passed ball before Stephanie Clemente singled home a run to
put the Cardinals up 2-1.
With two outs in the top of the fourth, Camp (Courtland, VA/
South Hampton Academy) doubled home Beard to tie the game at 2-2.
Kristen Tracynger put Catholic back in front with an RBI single
in the bottom of the sixth. Katie Ann Trotta extended the lead to
4-2 with an RBI double later in the inning.
The Yellow Jackets could not rally in the seventh and the
Cardinals held on for the 4-2 win.
Clemente picks up the win for Catholic after allowing just one
earned run in seven innings of work. Trotta paced the Cardinals at
the plate with a 2-for-3 game with a double and an RBI.
Heather Lewis (Glen Allen, VA/ Deep Run) allowed two runs on
four hits in the loss. Kristi Wise (Akron, PA/ Ephrata) gave up one
earned run in five innings of work.
Catholic pushed across two unearned runs in the bottom of the
second of game two to go up 2-0.
The Yellow Jackets loaded the bases with one out in the top of
the fourth but were unable to push across a run.
Kristen Dize (Onancock, VA/ Nandua) led off the top of the
seventh with a single to bring the tying run to the plate, but the
Jackets could not rally and Catholic took the game 2-0.
Beard is stuck with the loss despite not allowing an earned run
in six innings of work.
Stacie Goddard allowed just two hits for the complete game win.
