LYNCHBURG, VA—Jordan Hunt's seventh inning RBI single
pushed Randolph-Macon Softball past Randolph College 6-5 in game
two from Lynchburg Saturday. Randolph-Macon improves to 5-3 overall
and 1-1 in the ODAC while the WildCats, who won game one 5-4, move
to 1-3 in conference play.
Randolph pushed across a run in the third and fourth inning of
game one to take a 2-0 lead heading into the top of the fifth.
The Yellow Jackets then rallied for four runs in the top of the
sixth, highlighted by an RBI single from Hunt (Mahopac, NY/
Mahopac) and a two run single off the bat of Laura Bauer (New Kent,
VA/ New Kent).
R-MC's 4-2 lead would be short lived as Randolph plated two runs
in the bottom of the sixth on a two run single by Emily Ambrous.
The WildCats pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh on
an error to take game one 5-4.
Kelly Beard (Williamsport, MD/ Williamsport) picks up the loss
in a third of an inning of work for the Yellow Jackets. R-MC
starter Heather Lewis went six innings and allowed two earned runs
and struck out four.
Ambrous earns the complete game win, allowing one earned run and
striking out four.
Nichole Smith gave Randolph an early 1-0 in game two with an RBI
single to center.
The Yellow Jackets responded in the second inning, scoring two
runs on two bases loaded walks. Beard, Bauer, and Michalann Camp
(Courtland, VA/ South Hampton Academy) led off the inning with
singles to put R-MC in position to score on walks.
Randolph rallied to score four runs in the third inning,
highlighted by a two run double from Smith to take a 5-2 lead.
Randolph-Macon pushed across a run in the fifth to cut the lead
to 5-3 on a Randolph error.
Megan Shepherd (Southview, VA/ Park View) stepped to the plate
with two on and two out in the top of the sixth for R-MC and
smashed a double to score Alex Gregoire (Virginia Beach, VA/ First
Colonial) Lacey Berry (Essex, VA/ Essex) and tie the game 5-5.
In the top of the seventh, Hunt came up to the plate with two
outs and ripped a single to center, scoring Beard and putting the
Yellow Jackets up 6-5. This would prove to be the winning run as
the WildCats could not tie the game in the bottom of the seventh.
Shepherd and Hunt had a hit and two RBI each for the Yellow
Jackets. Beard and Camp contributed with two hits each.
Lewis picks up the win for Randolph-Macon after allowing just
one hit in five innings of relief.
Ambrous is stuck with the loss for Randolph after allowing one
run on two hits in one and a third innings of relief.
Randolph-Macon travels to Catholic University Sunday, March
20th, for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
