R-MC Softball Splits a Pair of One Run Games with Randolph College

LYNCHBURG, VA—Jordan Hunt's seventh inning RBI single pushed Randolph-Macon Softball past Randolph College 6-5 in game two from Lynchburg Saturday. Randolph-Macon improves to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the ODAC while the WildCats, who won game one 5-4, move to 1-3 in conference play.

Randolph pushed across a run in the third and fourth inning of game one to take a 2-0 lead heading into the top of the fifth.

The Yellow Jackets then rallied for four runs in the top of the sixth, highlighted by an RBI single from Hunt (Mahopac, NY/ Mahopac) and a two run single off the bat of Laura Bauer (New Kent, VA/ New Kent).

R-MC's 4-2 lead would be short lived as Randolph plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a two run single by Emily Ambrous.

The WildCats pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh on an error to take game one 5-4.

Kelly Beard (Williamsport, MD/ Williamsport) picks up the loss in a third of an inning of work for the Yellow Jackets. R-MC starter Heather Lewis went six innings and allowed two earned runs and struck out four.

Ambrous earns the complete game win, allowing one earned run and striking out four.

Nichole Smith gave Randolph an early 1-0 in game two with an RBI single to center.

The Yellow Jackets responded in the second inning, scoring two runs on two bases loaded walks. Beard, Bauer, and Michalann Camp (Courtland, VA/ South Hampton Academy) led off the inning with singles to put R-MC in position to score on walks.

Randolph rallied to score four runs in the third inning, highlighted by a two run double from Smith to take a 5-2 lead.

Randolph-Macon pushed across a run in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-3 on a Randolph error.

Megan Shepherd (Southview, VA/ Park View) stepped to the plate with two on and two out in the top of the sixth for R-MC and smashed a double to score Alex Gregoire (Virginia Beach, VA/ First Colonial) Lacey Berry (Essex, VA/ Essex) and tie the game 5-5.

In the top of the seventh, Hunt came up to the plate with two outs and ripped a single to center, scoring Beard and putting the Yellow Jackets up 6-5. This would prove to be the winning run as the WildCats could not tie the game in the bottom of the seventh.

Shepherd and Hunt had a hit and two RBI each for the Yellow Jackets. Beard and Camp contributed with two hits each.

Lewis picks up the win for Randolph-Macon after allowing just one hit in five innings of relief.

Ambrous is stuck with the loss for Randolph after allowing one run on two hits in one and a third innings of relief.

Randolph-Macon travels to Catholic University Sunday, March 20th, for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
