Box Score ASHLAND, VA – Randolph-Macon
had nine different players score as the Yellow Jackets topped
visiting Shenandoah 20-7 Wednesday afternoon in men's
lacrosse action.
Jake Leddy who had three goals and
four assists for seven points on the afternoon led R-MC (2-0)
offensively. Billy Rowe chipped in with four goals, while Brian
Rowe and Tyler Midwinter each had a hat trick in the victory.
On the defensive side of the ball,
R-MC won the ground ball battle 49-22 led by Joe Liberto and Kris
Knopp, who had eight and seven GBs respectively. The Yellow
Jackets forced 25 turnovers and Jason Crawford turned away seven
shot in net as well.
Shenandoah (0-4) was led by
goalkeeper Andrew Fleischmann who made 18 saves in net for the
Hornets. Joe Avveduti, PJ Cooper and Jimmy Bungert each had a
pair of goals in a losing effort for SU.
After Avveduti put SU up 1-0, R-MC
went on a 4-0 run to close the first quarter, getting two goals
from Billy Rowe and single strikes for Kevin Patton and JR Sander.
SU got back-to-back goals to start
the second stanza, pulling within one at 4-3 when Avveduti
scored with 6:38 to go in the half.
R-MC then reeled off the final six
goals of the half, taking a 10-3 lead into the locker room at
intermission.
The Yellow Jackets scored the first
six goals of the second half, taking a 16-3 when Midwinter tallied
a goal with just under 14 minutes to play in the game.
The Yellow Jackets out shot
Shenandoah 56-17 on the day, converted 21-of-23 clears attempt and
won 18-of-30 face-offs in the victory.
Randolph-Macon will be back in
action on Saturday when it heads to Goucher College for a 1:00 p.m.
face-off.
