Box Score 2 ASHLAND, VA-Randolph-Macon Softball won both games of a
doubleheader against Southern Virginia University to start the 2010
season, 5-1 and 7-0.
Laura Bauer (New Kent, VA/ New Kent) put the Yellow Jackets up
1-0 in game one with an RBI double to left center, scoring Morgan
Greene (Virginia Beach, VA/ Tallwood).
Paige Smith (Harborton, VA/ Nandua) and Greene both had RBI
singles in the second to highlight a three run inning, giving R-MC
a 4-0 advantage.
The Yellow Jackets pushed across another run in third off the
bat of freshman Alex Gregoire (Virginia Beach, VA/ First Colonial)
who singled to left.
Southern Virginia tacked on a late run but Randolph-Macon held
off the rally to take first game 5-1.
Christi Wise (Akron, PA/ Ephrata) earns the win allowing no
runs, just one hit and striking out three. Kristen Dize (Onancock,
VA/ Nandua) allowed just one run and two hits to go with two
strikeouts in relief.
Gregoire led the offense with a two for three game and an RBI.
Randolph-Macon jumped out to a quick start in the first inning
of game two. Lauryn Nanny (Chester, VA/ Thomas Dale) singled home
Greene and Bauer plated Nanny later in the inning.
With two outs and no one on in the third, Kelly Beard
(Williamsport, MD/ Williamsport) and Bauer hit back to back
doubles, sparking a three run inning, finished off by a Michalann
Camp (Courtland, VA/ South Hampton Acad.) RBI double.
A two run single from Bauer in the sixth pushed the R-MC lead to
7-0 which would hold to be the final.
Bauer finished with two hits including a double and three RBI.
Nanny had three hits and an RBI while Beard contributed with two
doubles and an RBI.
Freshman lefty Heather Lewis (Glen Allen, VA/ Deep Run) picked
up the win after allowing no runs and just one hit with three
strikeouts in four innings of work. Beard struck out four in three
scoreless innings of relief.
Randolph-Macon Softball is back in action Sunday, February
28th, when they host Dickinson College for a 1:00 p.m.
doubleheader.
